Lot 31.  1889 New York Giant Theatre book and program — "Complimentary Testimonial to the New York Baseball Club". A most unusual pair, a 4 page 6" x 9 1/2" paper program including the night’s agenda, a seating plan and an ad on the back cover and more importantly an elaborate and ornate 6" square program (though the presentation is triangular) outlining the evening’s program and including two pages, each with 9 portraits of the Giants. The portraits, which include John Ward, Roger Connor, Tim Keefe, Buck Ewing, James O’Rourke and Mickey Welch (all on one fabulous page) are the same poses as those used on the N338-2 S.F. Hess cards and Police Gazette Cabinets and were obviously photographed by the latter firm. The program is held together at the upper corner and the front page is loose. Excellent and very rare. Included is copies of several related newspaper articles, one making mention of the event in a gossip column, and another giving a detailed report of the evening.
Minimum Bid $750.

Lot 32.  Australian Tour Cabinet of Ned Williamson. The famous Stevens Studio in Chicago produced Cabinet photos for all the Chicago players who went on Albert Spalding’s Australian Tour in 1888-89. The photos came on the market from a player’s grand-daughter’s estate in the 1980’s. Williamson was a superlative infielder for Chicago in the 1880’s setting league leading performances at both shortstop and third base. He also hit 27 Home runs in 1884, the league record until 1919. The Cabinet is in ex+-mt condition with almost all the gold leaf still present on the edges.
Minimum Bid $500.

Lot 33.  1889 Chicago BB Club Album. A magnificent 3 7/8" x 5 1/2" innovative album held together (not very well) by a ribbon through a hole at the top. Published by Pfeffer & King (that would be Fred Pfeffer, an infielder on the team and pictured in the book) and consisting of 14 pages, 13 of which are devoted to individual players. The players, a superior group, are Al Spalding, Cap Anson, Frank Dwyer, Tom Daly, Jimmy Ryan, Ed Williamson, Pfeffer, Van Haltren, Gus Krock, Tommy Burns, Charles Farrell, Mark Baldwin, Hugh Duffy and Frank Flint. The back cover carries a graphic ad for Spalding’s Sporting Goods. The book is in very good to excellent condition. Have never seen another.
Minimum Bid $1,000.

Lot 34.  St. Louis Browns Champion Baseball Club of the World. A 3 1/2" x 6" paper booklet featuring full page portraits of ten Browns in the Browns Champion poses. Included are Owner Von Der Ahe, Manager Comiskey, James O’Neill, Curtis Welch, Art Latham, Yank Robinson, Bill Gleason, Al Bushong, Bob Carruthers and Dave Foutz. Each portrait has a blatant ad for Merrell’s Penetrating Oil below the picture. The 16 page booklet is in very good condition and may be unique.
