Lot 52.  19th century grab bag of 3 items. 1. circa 1850 Reward of Merit with baseball scene (vg-ex), 2. Circa 1850 Babcock Toy Book series pamphlet with animal biographies with very early baseball drawing on cover (ex). 3. 1896 Boston Globe supplement showing color drawings of players and grandstand (ex).

Lot 53.  1865-6 Frank Leslies Woodcuts in full issues. Two of the most prestigious woodcuts known. The November 4, 1865 Leslies featured a centerfold spread showing the game and players from the Eckford-Atlantic match at the Union grounds in Brooklyn. 20 players, from the area teams are illustrated and in many cases the only pictures known for them. Included are Jim Creighton (baseball's first superstar), Mort Rogers, Jos. Legett, etc. Also the cover of the July 21, 1966 issue featured the Officers of the National Association of Baseball players including Mort Rogers. Both are excellent.

July 1, 1865 half page Grand match between Resolutes and Athletics at Union Grounds, hand colored, vg-ex; Nov. 3, 1866 full page showing match between Atlantics and Athletics; July 25, 1874 full paper with full page showing Boston and Athletic teams; May 16, 1885 full page of Champion Base-Ball Players; Oct. 13, 1883 Harpers, 1/2 page with Boston Champions team; Oct. 10, 1885 half page "The Struggle for the Championship at Chicago"; May 8, 1886 Cover showing Tim Keefe being carried off Opening Day; May 2, 1889 full paper with cover "Scenes at the Polo Grounds"; Sept. 7, 1889 full paper with 1/4 page woodcut of John Ward; August 29, 1891 full page showing cover with Buck Ewing in action; Average excellent.

Lot 55.  3 very tough full page woodcuts from the Police Gazette in the '80's. The Oct., 19, 1889 Police Gazette which carries the headline "New York WINS THE PENNANT", shows a beautiful composite of 17 Giants including 6 HOF'ers; The Nov. 10, 1888 issue also carries a full page composite with 20 numbered portraits with 6 HOF'ers. This issue also has a full page song sheet for famous fighter Joe Kilrain. The same Police Gazette also carries a nice woodcut of Tony Mullane in their two column "Baseball Gossip" article. Finally, the April 27, 1895 Police Gazette carries a full page composite of 5 baseball captains - A.C. Anson, G.S. Davis, Buck Ewing, Dave Foutz, and Fred Pfeffer. All are excellent or better and come in complete issues.

Lot 56.  3 19th Century cards - 2 WG1 and 1 die cut. The WG1's are Pittsburgh players, Maul (vg) and Smith (vg). The die cut is from the set of 10 with generic players and team names, Pittsburgh (vg).

Lot 57.  Scrapps card of Bill Gleason. Gleason was the shortstop of the Champion Browns and is confused with Bill "Kid" Gleason, the "Black Sox" manager. The card from the Scrapps set, which featured 9 players each from the Champion Browns and Detroit Tigers has an excellent appearance and contains the expected album remains on the rear.
