Stunning Sporting Times Scorecard.
Lot 41. Stunning Sporting Times Scorecard. Circa late 1880's scorecard from an obscure publication called the Sporting Times, which was in circulation, I believe, from 1888 to 1890. Measuring 4 7/8" x 7 1/8, the 4 page scorecard appears to be an advertising promotion for the newspaper, which advertised itself as the "Leading Base Ball Paper of the Century". The striking covers carries portraits of 7 players, 6 of which are HOF'ers.- Cap Anson, Mike Kelly, John Ward, John Clarkson, Charles Comiskey, and Buck Ewing. Jack Glasscock is the 7th player who easily has the credentials for the HOF. The back cover carries a color ad for Spalding baseballs and the scorecard portion inside carries either a minor league game or an amateur game. Some nearly undetectable restoration has been done to a separation on the spine. Excellent appearance and another one is not known.
