Lot 131. R334 1939 Playball set of 161 plus variation with High Grade DiMaggio & Williams. One of the nicer sets we've seen with about 73% ex-mt with many near mint. The DiMaggio and Williams could easily and should have been graded 6 or higher. Variation is #1 with red overprint on back. Also includes collector issued card of #126-Monte Stratton, card that was never issued. Four cards have tape residue on back, Highlights: 1-Powell (vg-ex, vg with red o'print), 3-Ruffing (ex-mt), 26-DiMaggio (SGC 60 EX 5), 30-Dickey (ex), 50-Gehringer (ex-mt), 51-Ott (ex+-mt), 56-Greenberg (nr mt), 82-Klein (ex front, soiling on back), 92-Williams (SGC 60 EX 5), 94-Manush (ex), 103-Berg (ex), 112-P.Waner (nr mt), 143-Averill (near ex), 162-Moore (vg-ex). Low # balance: 88 cards ex-mt or near mint with at least half the cards near mint, 12 cards excellent, 2 cards vg, 1 card good. High # Balance: 23 cards ex-mt or near mint, 12 cards excellent, 6 cards vg, 3 cards good.
