Lot 239.  Babe Ruth Pencil autograph. A magnificent, large pencil cut signed “Sincerely Babe Ruth” on a 4 1/2” x 2 1/4” piece of paper. The paper has been folded through the “S” of Sincerely. Removable.

Lot 240.  Cy Young pen signature on linen card. 3” autograph on a 4 1/4” x 3” linen card. As nice as you could possibly find. Could easily be removed from the card.

Lot 241.  Magnificent Ty Cobb dated signature. On the 3 3/4” x 2 1/4” portion of a lined 3” x 5” card. Signed Ty Cobb and ending with a flourish, the piece is dated “8/5/45”. The index card portion appears to be easily removable.

Lot 242.  “J. Honus Wagner Pirates 45” ink autograph. Item was on fold of display and part of the bottom of the “baseball” has broken off. Fortunately the signature is unaffected. A perfect “10”.

Lot 243.  Napoleon Lajoie dated ink autograph. Beautiful pen signature on a 4 1/4” x 3” portion of a lined 3” x 5” card. It is dated by Lajoie “2-2-46”.

Lot 244.  Tris Speaker pen autograph. As with the Wagner item, the Speaker signature was on the fold of the display and part of the bottom of the “baseball” has broken off. The main portion of the autograph is unaffected although the bottom portion of the 4 1/2” x 2 1/2” remains of the index card is hanging. The fold goes through the flowing “S’ of Speaker. The signature does show some wear but is still very clear.

Lot 245.  Grover Cleveland Alexander autograph. Signed “Grover C Alexander” in ink with a shaky pen, diagonally across the 3” x 4 1/2” portion of an index card.

Lot 246.  Group of 4 better autographs including Connie Mack, Rogers Hornsby, George Sisler and Eddie Collins. Each is on circular 5 1/4” hand drawn baseball, which adheres to a piece from the original display. Details on each autograph is as follows: Connie Mack (perfect black ink signature on a 3 1/2” x 2” section of a blank 3” x 5” card), Rogers Hornsby (3” + black ink signature on a 4 1/4” x 2 1/2” section of a creased blank 3” x 5” card, George Sisler (a 4” signature in black ink on the 5” x 2” remains of a lined 3” x 5” card) and Eddie Collins (a 3” black ink signature on the 4” x 1” remains of a lined 3” x 5” card).

Lot 247.  Large autograph display including Mel Ott, Hank Greenberg, Mickey Cochrane, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Lefty Grove, Stan Musial and 27 others. The display, which has been folded in half, can best be described in 3 vertical columns. First column – Lined 3 x 5 “Best Wishes “Hank” Greenberg, 3 x 5 slip of paper “Lefty Grove”, Blank 3 x 5 “David “Boo” Ferris”, 4 x 3 1/4 slip of paper “Best Wishes George Stirnweiss”, lined 3 x 5 “Dolph Camilli”, 4 x 3 1/4 slip of paper “Whitey Kurowski”, Lined 3 x 5 “Billy Johnson”; Second column - 4 x 3 1/4 slip of paper “Best Wishes Joe DiMaggio”, Lined 3 x 5 “To Bernhard Best Wishes Mickey Cochrane Lt. Yankees 46”. All signatures are very clear. There is some slight yellowing of the paper and in a couple of place some minor soiling.

Lot 248.  Terrific authenticated Lot of 11 deceased vintage baseball top quality autographs including Bobby Lowe, Bill Lange, Pat Donovan and Fred Tenney. All the players debuted in the majors between 1890 and 1894. Ten have been authenticated by Jim Spence and encapsulated by SGC. An additional COA for all 11 is included from Mike Guiterrez, from whose auction the lot was originally bought. The eleven autographs are: 1. Bobby Lowe, who hit 4 HR’s in 1 game, on a slightly trimmed GPC. 2. Bill Lange, arguably the best player not in the Hall of Fame (he only played 9 of the 10 required years) on a 3 x 5. 3. Patrick Donovan on blank side of a 3 x 5. 4. Ernest Mohler, well known PCL player, on a blank 3 x 5. 5. Fred Tenney on lined 3 x 5. 6. Joe Sugden on blank 3 x 5. 7. Francis Powers, 1890’s manager, on a cut attached to a 3 x 5. 8. W.J. Bill Clarke on blank side of a 3 x 5. 9. Albert K. Selbach on a GPC, 10. John Hollison on lined 3 x 5. 11. Jess Tannehill, a large cut glued to an index card.

Lot 249.  Interesting group of signed letters and documents highlighted by a deed signed by Bill Lange. The group also includes Players contracts signed by Joe Cronin, Eddie Collins and Horace Stoneham, A letter on Yankee letterhead signed by Paul Krichell and one on Newark BB Club stationary signed by George Weiss. Finally a note of American League Stationary to Charley Finley signed by AL President Cronin. Bill Lange starred 7 years in the 1890’s for the Cubs and gave up his career to marry his love. He was a sure fire Hall of Fame but didn’t qualify for the 10 year requirement. The deed was made out to another Hall of Famer, George Kelly, who was Lange’s nephew.

Lot 250.  1934 St. Louis Cardinals autographed WS scorecard and a 1960 Fleers card signed by Mickey Cochrane. Signed by Dizzy Dean, Joe Medwick, Pepper Martin, Jim Mooney and Ernie Orsatti. The program was purchased by our consignor at a St. Louis card show from immortal collector Buck Barker. The card is near mint with note of the autograph in black fountain pen which is a “10”.

Lot 251.  Nice group of ten autographed 1933 Goudeys and a Sport King. The Sport King is Hubbell (clear signature on front, soiling on back), Goudeys are highlighted by Hornsby and also Dykes, John Ogden, Schulte, Faber, Jurges, Fitzsimmons, Moore, Walberg and Cuccinello. The Moore and Jurges have had the bottom logo trimmed off.

Lot 252.  Complete Collection of all 28 autographed Major League yearbooks from 1951 (13) and 1952 (15). All signatures were gotten in person by a MLB photographer. A terrific lot for the publication collector or the autograph collector. Twenty eight of the books have from 1 to 31 autographs in the books adjacent to their pictures. The total autographs number 163 which include 10 Hall of Famers including Joe DiMaggio and Rogers Hornsby. Other notable autographs are Billy Martin (x2) and Jackie Jensen. Highlight books are the 1951 Miracle Giants which has 31 signatures including Mays, Durocher and Irvin and the 1952 Cleveland Indians with 28 signatures including 4 Hall of Famers (Lopez, Lemon, Wynn and Doby). Overall condition of the books is excellent with a couple of the heavily autographed books showing some separation at the spine. A detailed list of all 28 yearbooks with the accompanying autographs in each is available on request.

Lot 253.  Group of 24 Hall of Fame autographed gold plaque cards. Most interesting is one sent through the mail from Harry Hooper to fellow HOF’er George Kelly in 1972 with a detailed note, which is signed “Harry”. The other plaques, all ex-mt, almost all signed at the top in blue sharpie are: Jim Catfish Hunter, Jocko Conlan, Buck Leonard, Burleigh Grimes, Waite Hoyt, Billy Herman, Carl Hubbell, George Kell, W H/Bill Terry, Warren Spahn, Duke Snider, Brooks Robinson, Stan Musial, Johnny Mize, Rube Marquard, Bob Lemon, Ralph Kiner, Rick Ferrell, Bob Feller, Robt Doerr, Stanley Covesleski and A B Chandler, Lou Boudreau.
