Lot 223a.  1912 Schmeltzer's Sporting Goods Advertising Pin of Charles Deal. Only 8 different players are known in this extremely rare set for which there are less than a total of 25 copies known. Half of these were offered in a new discovery in 2006 and have not surfaced. The offered Deal is in near mint to mint condition with the original paper backing advertising Schmeltzers, and is among the best known copies of a Schmeltzer pin. Deal was a rookie 3rd Baseman for the Detroit Tigers in 1912.

Lot 223b.  Very rare 2" 1912 Minneapolis Tribune advertising Mirror of Fred Olmstead. Olmstead was the star pitcher for Minneapolis winning 28 games and losing only 10 in 1912. He had spent the prior four years, his only ones in the majors, with the Chicago White Sox. The mirror is in near mint condition with very slight tarnishing.

Lot 223c.  Two very rare pin items featuring Johnny Neun and George Sisler. The first, a 2” celluloid pin with an attached purple ribbon and gold bear for the Newark Bears 1938 season welcoming new Manager Johnny Neun. Former major leaguer Neun managed the Newark Bears for 4 years starting in 1938 to 1941. The Bears went 104-48 in 1938 and won the International League Pennant. The pin, stitched as a baseball, is inscribed “WELCOME TO” on the top “Feb. 16” with a picture of Neun on the “sweet spot” and “JOHNNY NEUN Bear’s Manager” at the bottom. The second very rare pin, is small, measuring ¾” of an inch and featuring George Sisler with “Geo. Sisler written in white letters on a black band. It’s from an uncataloged set. Both pins are ex+-mt to near mint.
