Pins, Display and Miscellaneous

  3 Lots

Lot 224.  1885 Currier and Ives Original Print “The Champions of the Ball Raquet at the close of the Season”. A 15 ½” x 11 ½” print professionally placed in a 19” x 15” matte. The print shows a comical ethnic baseball team, apparently not in the best of health after the season. It appears to be in excellent condition, however, there are small pieces of archival tape on the rear reinforcing some small tears not apparent from the front. Notations of being Published and Copyrighted by Currier and Ives are below the print. Colorful and rare!
Winning Bid $500.

Lot 225.  A matched pair of rare and ornate promotional calendars, issued by the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Doves for the 1910 season. They display each team’s complete season schedule surrounded by 20 portrait images of members of each team. Highlights from the Red Sox include Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper, Joe Wood, Ed Cicotte and Duffy Lewis all of whom would be members of their World Championship in 2 years. Ed Cicotte would also acquire his share of infamy in 9 years. The Doves, as the Braves were called then, did not have the name familiarity their rivals had and finished last in 1910.The display features the team names, “Boston American League Red Sox” and “Boston National League Doves” along the top and is lettered “Compliments of the Boston American” along the base. Calendars were not intended to be saved; the fragile composition of these promotional piece probably makes them all the rarer. The calendars (10 x 14 inches) are printed on thin paper stock and we imagine few have survived. They both have two horizontal folds and some minor staining and tiny imperfections in the border. Good.
Winning Bid $750.
