Lot 142.  Jim Thorpe. One of, if not the most famous athlete of the 20th century. Born in 1888 and died in 1953 at the age of 64, less than a year after he signed this card. Perfectly autographed ‘Jim Thorpe” in blue ball point on a used government post card addressed to John Smith, postmarked Reno, NV Jun 5, 1952.

Lot 143.  Berlin Guy Chamberlain. An original Canton Bulldog, played Professionally in the 1920’s. Signed “B Guy Chamberlain” in blue ball point on a blank 3 x 5 with a “My Autograph” script title. Chamberlain died in 1967 at the age of 73.

Lot 144.  John L “Paddy” Driscoll. One of the best and most versatile players of the 1920’s, playing mostly with the Chicago Cardinals and Chicago Bears. Signed a blank 3 x 5 “Paddy Driscoll”. He died in 1968 at the age of 72.

Lot 145.  Len Ford. One of the best defensive ends in the NFL who started in the All-America Football Conference in 1948-49 and became a star with the Cleveland Browns. Signed ‘Lennie Ford” on a lined 3 x 5. Ford died prematurely in 1972 at the age of 46.

Lot 146.  Vince Lombardi. Vince Lombardi was born in Brooklyn in 1913 and died prematurely at the age of 57. It was a remarkable 57 years. One of the “Seven Blocks of granite” at Fordham in 1936 Lombardi became a legend with the Green Bay Packers after a successful coaching stint with the Giants. His autograph on the blank 3 x 5 in thick blue ink jumps off the card which is titled “My Autograph’.

Lot 147.  Arnie Herber. Another tough autograph for the Green Bay quarterback of the 1930’s. Herber signed the blank 3 x 5 in black ink with a small newspaper photo of Herber neatly pasted on. Herber died in 1969 at the age of 59.

Lot 148.  Henry Jordan. Rare autograph for the noted Packer (and Browns) tackle who died in 1977 at the very young age of 42. Jordan signed this lined 3 x 5 in blue ball point.

Lot 149.  Jim Finks. A quarterback and executive who had remarkable success with three franchises, the New Orleans, the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings and also played for the Steelers. Neatly signed “Jim Finks” on a blank 3 x 5. Born in 1927 and he died in 1994, one year before he was inducted to the Hall of Fame.

Lot 150.  Earl Lambeau. The founder of the Green Bay Packers, a playing star and coach for them in illustrious early years. Lambeau has his full name and address on the return portion of an envelope addressed to a Photo Supply Co. in Green Bay in 1918. Signed “Earl L. Lambeau, Notre Dame Indiana”. Lambeau was a freshman at Notre Dame only in 1918 when he had to leave school as a freshman. He was born in Green Bay in 1898 and died there in 1965 at the age of 67.

Lot 151.  Johnny Blood McNally. McNally played Professionally from the mid 1920’s through the 1ate 1930’s. Signed “Johnny Blood McNally” on the back of a lined 3 x 5 in blue ballpoint. He died in 1985 at the age of 82.

Lot 152.  Steve Owen. A former 1920’s New York Giant player who became their coach for 23 years. Owen signed the blank side of a lined 3 x 5 in black ink with a small newspaper photo of Owen neatly pasted on. The reverse is rubber stamped ‘OCT 1946” to indicate when it was signed. Owen died in 1964 at the age of 66.

Lot 153.  Three Hall of Famers who played with the Canton Bulldogs -Joe Guyon, William “Link” Lyman, Link and Earl “Greasy” Neale. Guyon was an American Indian and a teammate of Jim Thorpe’s at Carlisle and also at Canton. He died in 1971 at 79. Lymon played with Canton from 1922-5 and wound up with the Chicago Bears in 1933-4, He died in 1972 at the age of 74. Neale’s connection with Canton is more unusual. He is reported to have played with them under an assumed name. He coached the Philadelphia Eagles quite successfully in 1940-50 and was an outfielder on the1919 Cincinnati Reds in 1919. He died at the age of 81 in 1973. Lyman  signed “Link” Lyman on a blank 3 x 5 and dated it 12-15-66. Neale inscribed “To Jim – Best of luck Earle ‘Greasy’ Neale on a blank 3 x 5 and Guyon filled out a bio card with his biographical information and signed Joseph N. Guyon in black ink with a back stamp of JUL 9 ’69 and wrote “Will be happy with any help, JMG” on the rear.

Lot 154.  Six early stars of Professional football. All were early stars of the NFL who died early and are very tough signatures. “Dutch” Clark, Turk Edwards, Ernie Nevers, Wayne Milner, Jack Christiansen and Frank Kinard. The first four are on blank 3x5’s. The Christiansen is a bio card and is dated on the back Dec 1962 and the Kinard in a lined 3x5.

Lot 155.  Group of 13 Green Bay Packer Hall of Famers. Includes Herb Adderly, Tony Canadeo, Willie Davis, Forest Gregg, Clarke Hinkle, Paul Hornung, Cal Hubbard, Don Hutson, Mike Michalske, Ray Nitschke, Jim Ringo, Bart Starr, Jim Taylor. Seven of the players are deceased. A list of the players in this group with style of 3x5 and birth and if applicable death dates is available on request. The Adderly card has a nice note on the back where he states his most thrilling moment and has a 2nd signature.

Lot 156.  Group of 19 Chicago Bear Hall of Famers. Includes Doug Atkins, George Blanda, Dick Butkus, George Connor, Mike Ditka, Dan Fortmann, Bill George, “Red” Grange, Ed Healey, Stan Jones, Sid Luckman, George McAfee, Bronco Nagurski, George Musso, Walter Payton, Gale Sayers, Joe Stydahar, George Trafton, Clyde “Bulldog”Turner. Eleven of the players are deceased. A list of the players in this group with style of 3x5 and birth and if applicable death dates is available on request. George Musso signed his business card which was attached to a 3x5.
