  5 Lots

Lot 30.  D303 Mothers Bread Buck Weaver. The D303 set with a General Baking back is a very rare issue, nearly impossible to complete. Making it even rarer are cards with Mothers Bread backs. As one might expect the designation of Buck Weaver adds to the desirability. As most collectors know, the illustration used is the same one used for Joe Tinker in several caramel sets. The card has a tiny chip at the upper left corner and presents itself well on the front. The rear has a small (1/2”) vertical strip of paper loss above the “S” in Mothers on an otherwise clean back.
Winning Bid $1,330.

Lot 31.  Ca 1915 M-unc. Evening Sun Gallery Christy Mathewson. Extremely rare series of 9” x 12” Supplements of which only one complete set is known. Published by the Evening Sun, Chenango County’s (New York) hometown Daily. Drawings by Lawrence Semon and feature New York Giant players and all appear to be identical to the nearly as rare Lawrence Semon post card issue (see lot 117). The Mathewson has creasing on the borders and there is some tape on the rear to insure the creasing doesn’t tear. The supplement presents much better.
Winning Bid $500.

Lot 32.  Uncataloged 4-in-1 Baseball Cards. Unusual cards which carry no advertising, have blank backs and carry familiar poses. The larger card (2 5/8” x 4”) show Babe Ruth batting in the upper left (with Red Sox uniform), Walter Johnson  at the upper right, probably Home Run Baker in the lower left and Stan Coveleskie in the lower right. There is minor soiling, mostly on the back and the card is excellent. The smaller card ( 2 1/2” x 3 1/4”), shows Zach Wheat in the upper right and Tris Speaker in the lower right. A very light small crease in the upper right and a tiny one in the upper right corner.
Winning Bid $879.

Lot 33.  1934-6 R318 Batter Up Premium of Joe Vosmik. Noted on the flap of a Batter Up High number wrapper, largely unnoticed is the offer
 “ALL FOR 1 CENT
1. A Large Photo Art Picture
2. A Stand Up Action Picture….
3. A Big Chew of Quality Gum”

We know about the card and the gum, but not the “Large Photo Art Picture” - until now. Incredibly rare newly identified type premium card, which measures 5” x 8”, is on glossy thin stock and has a dark red or maroon color. The back is blank. The offered Vosmik has some creasing but presents very well. I know of 3 others from this issue. They all show the exact same pose as the R318 Batter Up card.
Winning Bid $999.

Lot 34.  1951 Wheaties Richie Ashburn Premium Photo. From a very rare set issued by Wheaties (General Mills), possibly as a test set. Unusual in that there is no indication that it was produced by Wheaties. Consists of  athletes including 9 baseball players. Most of the baseball have the same photo used in the 1952 Wheaties set. The Ashburn was not in the 1952 set. The glossy photos measure 5” x 7”, are blank backed, and are best identified by an alphanumeric serial number in the lower right. Ex-mt with some light foxing.
Winning Bid $294.
