Lot 245.  1929 Champions Chicago Cub autographed Ball with 25 signatures. Our consignor, who is very well known to me, indicates he obtained the ball from one of the Chicago batboys in 1929, who obtained the signatures in person. The signatures include 5 Hall of Famers, Hack Wilson (fantastic signature) , KiKi Cuyler, Gabby Hartnett, Rogers Hornsby and Joe McCarthy. The other signatures are Beck, Blair, Blake, Bush, Carlson, Cvengros, English, Gonzales, Grampp, Grimm, Heathcote, Horne, Jonnard, Malone, McMillan, Moore, Nehf, Root, Stephenson and Taylor. The red and blue stitched ball is lightly shellacked but all signatures are very readable and clear. The ball was examined by a well known authenticator who said the signatures were at least “8”s and better and noted that the McCarthy, which was usually secretarial on balls like this, was good and the Hack Wilson ws among the nicest he’s seen. He also said the shellac was neatly done and was a rare case where it actually preserved the ball. One of the nicest 1929 Cubs balls you’ll ever see.
