Lot 415.  John Smith's astonishing collection of 461 members of the College Hall of Fame all authenticated by James Spence and encapsulated by SGC. Most are blank 3 x 5s, almost all have the players name typed at the top and their teams starting with their college typed at the bottom. Anything otherwise, or addition, is noted on the biographical list available, as is anything other than a name signature in ink. Some of the cards have a tiny rubber stamped date on the rear in the lower right corner showing when the card was signed. The highlights of the collection includes players such as Ernie Davis, Knute Rockne, Frank Loria, Guy Chamberlain, Joe Guyon, Paddy Driscoll, AA Exendine, John Maulbetsch, Bennie Friedman, Paddy Driscoll and Pop Warner. There are 21 HOF’ers from Notre Dame (Hunk Anderson, Wayne Millner, etc.), 17 HOF’ers from Michigan (Fritz Crisler, Kipke, Bump Elliott, Ron Johnson, Harry Newman, Schembacher, Ernie Vick, etc.), 13 HOF’ers from Army (Earl Blaik, Bill Carpenter, Ed Garbisch, Harvey Jablonski, John McEwan, Elmer Oliphant, AM Weyand, etc, 11 from Navy (Slade Cutter, Tom Hamilton, Frank Winkhorst , Ron Beagle, etc), 11 HOF’ers from  Alabama (Johnny Mack Brown, Paul Bryant, John Cain, J Pooley Hubert, etc), 10 HOF’ers from California (Stanley Barnes, Babe Horrell, Matt Hazeltine, etc.), 2 HOF’ers from Harvard (Hamilton Fish and Endicott Peabody), 5 HOF’ers from Yale (Pudge Heffelfinger, Hank Ketchum, Bill Mallory, Amos Alonzo Stagg and Mal Stevens, 14 HOF’ers from U Southern California (Johnny Baker, Howard Jones, Mike McKeever, etc) and 12 HOF’ers from Stanford. In addition there are 46 signatures from players in both the Collegiate and Professional Hall of Fames, The balance are divided into eras, with players who played in 1910 and prior (13), players who played from 1911-1919 (26), players who played from 1920-1929 (26), players who played from 1930-1939 (51), players who played from 1940-1949 (41), players who played from 1950-1959 (47), players who played from 1960 on (44), and a group of 44 Coaches from schools other than the above. Lot 416.  Eight autographed items from Collegiate Hall of Famers- Fielding Yost, Willie Heston, Buzz Borries, Charlie Brickey, Harry Kipke, Albie Booth, Ed Sherman and Paul Giel. Autographed Fielding Yost program page. 9" x 12" page inscribed clearly in black ink "To John with best wishes - Fielding H. Yost" and written a few inches below in the same hand "hurry up", his nickname. Willie Heston autographed letter from 1959. Willie Heston was one of the legendary football players from the U. of Michigan at the turn of the century from 1901-4 under the tutelage of Fielding Yost. Buzz Borries 8" x10" real photograph signed "Buzz Borries". Fred "Buzz" Borries was a Naval Academy halfback from 1932-4. In 1933 his touchdown defeated Notre Dame for Navy’s first victory ever over the Irish and the following year he helped Navy beat Army for the 1st time in 13 years. Charlie Brickey autographed letter to Braven Dyer. Charlie Brickey is not in the College Hall of Fame but he should be. He played offense and defense in 1912-1914 for Harvard and led them to undefeated seasons in those seasons. He was always considered football’s best drop kicker of all time. He was also an Olympian. This 7 1/4" x 10 1/2" tls to famous LA Times writer Braven Dyer is from 1932. Four Collegiate Hall of Fame autographed items for Harry Kipke, Albie Booth, Ed Sherman and Paul Giel. The highlight Kipke is an 8 x 10 studio photo. The autograph "Harry G Kipke" is written on the right side of the photo on his suit and is hard to see but is clearly there. A type written note from Booth is signed "Albie Booth". Signatures of the former Yale great are difficult as Booth died young. A 5" x 6 1/2" photo of Sherman is signed on the rear and a small photo of the two sport star Giel is signed clearly on the front.

Lot 417.  Three Hall of Famers who played with the Canton Bulldogs -Joe Guyon, William "Link" Lyman, Link and Earl "Greasy"Neale. Guyon was an American Indian and a teammate of Jim Thorpe’s at Carlisle and also at Canton. He died in 1971 at 79. Lymon played with Canton from 1922-5 and wound up with the Chicago Bears in 1933-4, He died in 1972 at the age of 74. Neale’s connection with Canton is more unusual. He is reported to have played with them under an assumed name. He coached the Philadelphia Eagles quite successfully in 1940-50 and was an outfielder on the1919 Cincinnati Reds in 1919. He died at the age of 81 in 1973. Lyman signed "Link" Lyman on a blank 3 x 5 and dated it 12-15-66. Neale inscribed "To Jim - Best of luck Earle ‘Greasy’ Neale on a blank 3 x 5 and Guyon filled out a bio card with his biographical information and signed Joseph N. Guyon in black ink with a back stamp of JUL 9 ’69 and wrote "Will be happy with any help, JMG" on the rear.
