Golf Programs

  8 Lots

Lot 432.  1932 U.S. Open Program at Fresh Meadow Country Club in New York City. Gene Sarazen won the Open by 3 strokes just a few miles from the site of the 1964 World’s Fair. The 48 page program, which is the rarest of the 1930’s, has some minor chipping on the cover with the contents being near mint.
Minimum Bid $1,000.

Lot 433.  1937 Ryder Cup Menu. From the 6th Ryder Cup tournament at the Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club when the U.S. Team defeated the British 8-4. The 4 1/2" x 7" attractive 4 page menu in red, white and blue is a very rare collectible. The American team was led by Gene Sarazen, Denny Shute, Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, Horton Smith and their Coach Water Hagan who was not a participant for the first time.
Minimum Bid $1,000.

Lot 434.  1944 PGA Championship Program won by Bob Hamilton at the Manito Golf Club in Spokane. An unusual program in that the Championship was played in a war year and for its size (8" x 9") which has never been seen in any U.S. major championship. Hamilton won the match play event 1-up over Gene Sarazen. The program is in excellent condition but for a hard to see light crease on the front cover.
Minimum Bid $500.

Lot 435.  1947 Ryder Cup Program at the Portland Golf Club. This was the first Ryder Cup since 1937 and is a difficult program to find. The U.S. won easily behind playing captain Ben Hogan. The 96 page program is in excellent condition.
Winning Bid $1,209.

Lot 436.  1949 "Ryder Cup Star Studies" Spiral bound photograph album with 31 real photographs on the fronts and backs of 8 thick black photo pages. The book is 10 1/4" x 8" and was apparently owned by British golfer Dick Burton who signed the overleaf of the front cover. Produced by Hoffmans of Halifax, Yorkshire, mostly pertaining to the recently concluded 1949 Ryder Cup. Hoffman’s apparently specialized in prestigious historic car sales. The photographs are accompanied by the neatly done descriptions in white pen. The photos start with a photo of the Ryder Cup, include one of Captain Ben Hogan meeting the Chairman of Hoffmans, Jimmy Demaret, the U.S. team aboard the "Queen Elizabeth", Sam Snead and the book concludes with full page team pictures with the U.S. team having Ben Hogan holding the cup. Ex+-mt.
Minimum Bid $500.

Lot 437.  1952 US Open Program at Northwood CC won by Julius Boros. Near mint copy from this obscure Open. It has a one inch piece of scotch tape on the left side by the middle. Boros won by 4 strokes over Porky Oliver with Ben Hogan third. A rare program from a less attended Open and is easily the most difficult post WWII Open program.
Winning Bid $330.

Lot 438.  1953 US Open Program at Oakmont won by Ben Hogan, his last U.S. Open victory. The second digest sized 96 page program commemorated Hogan’s fourth and final U.S. Open victory at Oakmont. The program is in excellent condition.
Winning Bid $605.

Lot 439.  1963 PGA Program Program at Dallas Athletic Club. The 1963 PGA is noted for being Jack Nicklaus’ first (of 5) PGA titles. Nicklaus came from 3 strokes back of the leader Bruce Crampton on the final day and won by 2 strokes over Dave Ragan. It is also known for being the site of the most difficult post World War II program from any major. The 200 page program is in near mint condition except for a light vertical crease near the spine.
Minimum Bid $400.
