Lot 36.  M-unc. 1890 Sporting Times Supplement of R.S. Allen, Philadelphia. One of the rarest types, a trimmed Supplement from the short lived weekly Sporting Times newspaper which was apparently around from the mid 1880’s to 1890. The Upper right corner of the April 13, 1890 issue shows an ad in the upper right corner noting "WITH PORTRAIT SUPPLEMENT". On the rare occasion that I’ve seen a supplement, except for one auctioned in 2006, its always been trimmed. The offered player measures 7 3/4 " x 5 1/2" instead of the issued 11" x 7". Otherwise in excellent condition.
Minimum Bid $750.

Lot 37.  Four 1909 Supplements from Boston Papers issued in rarely seen pairs. These rare supplements are tough enough to find, but finding them in attached pairs is nearly impossible. The first pair issued by the Boston Sunday Post was from a set of 18 Red Sox players and features Tris Speaker and Harry Lord. There are imperfections at the corners, otherwise in excellent condition. The second from the Boston Sunday Globe, is an even rarer pair, with an unknown checklist, is in color and features Nap Lajoie of Cleveland and Hal Chase of the Highlanders and measures 10" x 12". In remarkable excellent condition despite some tape marks on the rear of the later.
Winning Bid $807.

Lot 38.  M131 Baltimore News Tris Speaker SGC 40 VG 3. The Baltimore Newsboy set is nearly identical to the E94 Caramel set. " The Baltimore News Newsboys Series Prize of $1.00 to First 35 Boys Getting Full Set of the Following:" The cards are far rarer than the E94’s. The offered Speaker is well centered and shows some corner wear an has a clean back. It’s well deserving of the SGC grade.
Winning Bid $3,461.

Lot 39.  E221 Bishop Team card of Oakland, PCL. One of the rarest of all Caramel sets and probably the most difficult to get an example of, since there’s only five in the set. Each a team in the six team PCL in 1910. Offered here is a less than perfect example, but then it won’t cost $4-5,000. The Oakland team has been trimmed at the left and right on the team picture and the original roster to the right has also been trimmed off. Our consignor replaced the roster with a Xerox copy. The top margins are original and the team portion, which consists of 17 members of the Oaks is actually in very nice condition. An opportunity to get a great rarity at a reasonable price.
Winning Bid $1,000.

Lot 40.  E271 Darby Chocolate card of Jack Powell. One of the hobby’s rarest sets where most known subjects came from two finds. The first was a group of boxes, where two cards formed the sides. The second, from which the offered Powell came, was a group of cards that were attached to a wall of a barn that was damaged in a fire. This 1910 card shows the effect, though the highlights are remarkably clear. In poor condition, but a one of a kind.
Winning Bid $1,949.

Lot 41.  M110 Sporting Life Christy Mathewson. One of the key cards from a very rare 6 card oversized issue. There are three areas of light creasing, none very heavy. The advertising back has a couple of spots of small paper loss. Good.
Winning Bid $2,148.

Lot 42.  Rare 1913 Managerial "post card" of George Stallings and Johnny Evers. From a set of similar designed cards, each portraying two managers from baseball. The cards are all post card size (ca 5 1/2" x 3 1/2") and are all blank backed. Evers only managed the Cubs to a 3rd place finish in 1913 and Stallings managed the Braves from 1913 through 1920 including the Miracle 1913 season. The card is in excellent condition but for a slight bend in the upper left corner. The back is clean.
Winning Bid $200.

Lot 43.  1921 Frederick Foto of Carroll Canfield, SGC 30 Good 2. Very rare type from a Sacramento, CA photographer named Frederick. Most all the photos are PCL players and most were Sacramento players as Canfield was. The grade is a mystery. Aside from the centering which is almost always awful on Frederick Photos the card is ex+-mt with no flaws.
Minimum Bid $300.
