Lot 19.  Matthew Brady CDV of Sam and Harry Wright, circa 1865. Sam Wright is holding a cricket paddle in the studio setting. Harry is holding a ball. Beautiful photo on the 2 1/2" x 4" card. Only fault is a 1/2" surface wrinkle at Sam’s knees which keeps the card from being near mint. Harry Wright was one of the members of the New York Knickerbockers, aided in the formation of the National Association (1871-1875), later was a manager and was a historical figure in baseball. His older brother Sam played organized baseball at least with Lowell in 1877. The rear of the card has the publisher’s stamp and famed Civil War photographer Mathew Brady’s logo.

Lot 20.  N135 Talk of The Diamond set of 25. Extremely popular 19th Century set produced by Duke under their Honest long Cut brand. The beautifully designed cards feature a drawing of a baseball player on the left side and a comic depiction of a baseball saying on the right. Some of the cards have some album remains on the back and this has been taken into account on the grading. Condition breakdown: 8 ex-mt, 5 excellent,. 3 vg-ex, 8 vg, 1 good.

Lot 21.  N184 Kimballs near set of 42 (of 50) including all 4 baseball (Henderson, Burch, Darling & O’Neil) The missing subjects are Muldoon, Oakley, Paulsen, Perry, Smith, Stewart and Sullivan. 13 cards including the four baseball have been trimmed at the top and bottom and have severe back damage and paper remains.(See photo). The remaining 29 cards average very good and include Dempsey and Isaac Murphy.

Lot 22.  N300 Mayo Ed Delehanty, Philadelphia. Nice card of the ill fated HOF’er. Well centered and an unmarred black back. Card has a couple of scratches including one by Delehanty’s ear. Very good-excellent.

Lot 23.  N300 Mayo Buck Ewing, Cincinnati on shirt. Very good card of Ewing, some wear shows at the borders and a small 1/2" crease not visible from the front.

Lot 24.  4 N300 Mayos. Nice group includes Hallman (vg), Corcoran, Brooklyn (ex+), Cross, Phila. (excellent but for pinhole at lower right) and Pfeffer (retired), Louisville on shirt (vg-ex). All have the black backs untouched.

Lot 25.  N333 S.F. Hess Newsboy. Tough type card of Detroit newsboy. Name not legible. Nice condition card but graded very good-excellent because of light picture.

Lot 26.  N370 Lone Jack Curtis Welsh. One of the 13 Lone Jacks that share the same poses as the old Judge Browns Champs but are infinitely rarer. Welsh was the Browns star outfielder. The card has superb photo quality and is well centered. There is some album paper remains on the rear.

Lot 27.  N690 Kalamazoo Bats Fogarty and McGuire. Rare double player pose. Exceptional picture quality, blank back. Tiny speck (1/4" paper loss) at upper right side. Overall vg-ex.

Lot 28.  E.R. Williams Card Game Fred Pfeffer and "Chicken" Wolf. One of 19 cards with players in very rare and desirable 19th Century set. GAI NM-MT 8.

Lot 29.  1886 Lorillard Team Card of Chicago. One of baseball’s great teams from the Lorillard set of four. National League pennant winners with an amazing .726 winning percentage. The card features familiar names such as Cap Anson, Mike Kelly, John Clarkson, Billy Sunday, Ed Williamson, Mike McCormick, Fred Pfeffer, Tommy Burns, Abner Dalrymple, Silver Flint and George Gore. Condition is a very nice very good. There’s a light crease in the upper right and the Schedule back with a Lorillard ad is clean.

Lot 30.  1888 Detroit Wolverine Trade Card. Unusual Trade card for one of the 19th Centuries great teams. Studio shot of 1888 team is exactly the same pose in the Joseph Hall Cabinet. Dan Brouthers is shown in the back (3rd from left), San Thompson is to his left. Ned Hanlon is by Manager Watkins right. Charlie Bennett and Deacon White are also pictured on this great team. A key identifying all the players is included. Rear shows ad for a Clothing store. The Trade card measures 7" x 4 1/4" and has some creasing and a few tears, but is very rare and the image is fine.

Lot 31.  1889 New York Giant Theatre book and program — "Complimentary Testimonial to the New York Baseball Club". A most unusual pair, a 4 page 6" x 9 1/2" paper program including the night’s agenda, a seating plan and an ad on the back cover and more importantly an elaborate and ornate 6" square program (though the presentation is triangular) outlining the evening’s program and including two pages, each with 9 portraits of the Giants. The portraits, which include John Ward, Roger Connor, Tim Keefe, Buck Ewing, James O’Rourke and Mickey Welch (all on one fabulous page) are the same poses as those used on the N338-2 S.F. Hess cards and Police Gazette Cabinets and were obviously photographed by the latter firm. The program is held together at the upper corner and the front page is loose. Excellent and very rare. Included is copies of several related newspaper articles, one making mention of the event in a gossip column, and another giving a detailed report of the evening.

Lot 32.  Australian Tour Cabinet of Ned Williamson. The famous Stevens Studio in Chicago produced Cabinet photos for all the Chicago players who went on Albert Spalding’s Australian Tour in 1888-89. The photos came on the market from a player’s grand-daughter’s estate in the 1980’s. Williamson was a superlative infielder for Chicago in the 1880’s setting league leading performances at both shortstop and third base. He also hit 27 Home runs in 1884, the league record until 1919. The Cabinet is in ex+-mt condition with almost all the gold leaf still present on the edges.

Lot 33.  1889 Chicago BB Club Album. A magnificent 3 7/8" x 5 1/2" innovative album held together (not very well) by a ribbon through a hole at the top. Published by Pfeffer & King (that would be Fred Pfeffer, an infielder on the team and pictured in the book) and consisting of 14 pages, 13 of which are devoted to individual players. The players, a superior group, are Al Spalding, Cap Anson, Frank Dwyer, Tom Daly, Jimmy Ryan, Ed Williamson, Pfeffer, Van Haltren, Gus Krock, Tommy Burns, Charles Farrell, Mark Baldwin, Hugh Duffy and Frank Flint. The back cover carries a graphic ad for Spalding’s Sporting Goods. The book is in very good to excellent condition. Have never seen another.
