Lot 274.  Innovative Multi colored proto type Ball used in 1992 All Star game at San Diego. In 1992 the San Diego wanted to introduce a ball with multi color stitching for the All-Star Game, specifically their colors. MLB was concerned that a multi colored stitched ball would be difficult for the hitters to see. They tried to satisfy the Padres interest by changing the traditional red stitching to only one of the team colors (navy or orange) and produced baseballs that represent those efforts. After a couple of proto types Rawlings produced a ball with multi colored stitching and had Tony Gwynn take batting practice with them. He concluded that there was no problem seeing the ball with the multi colored stitched baseball. A new tradition was born. Since 1992, every ball used in the All-Star Game now has multi colored stitching that reflects the colors of the home host team. In the offered lot there are four balls, three are prototypes. One with blue stitching and black printing, another with orange stitching and black printing and finally a prototype with the correct orange and blue stitching but with black printing. The fourth ball is the exact type used in the 1992 All-Star Game and set the standard for those to come.
