Lot 126. 1953 Bowman Color set of 160. As nice a 1953 Bowman color set as we’ve ever offered. Put together in 1953 from packs of cards. Low number Highlights: 1-Williams (ex-mt, o/c), 9-Rizzuto (nr mt), 10-Ashburn (nr mt), 18-Fox (nr mt), 32-Musial (nr mt), 33-Reese (nr mt), 44-Mantle, etc (nr mt, o/c), etc., 46-Campanella (nr mt), 59-Mantle (nr mt), 65-Roberts (nr mt), 80-Kiner (nr mt, but has a light printing wrinkle), 92-Hodges (nr mt), 93-Rizzuto-Martin (nr mt), 97-Mathews (nr mt), 99-Spahn (nr mt); Balance of low numbers: We count 9 cards with exaggerated centering problems (little or no border on one side), the balance are nr mint (and better). High Number Highlights: 114-Feller (nr mt), 117-Snider (nr mt), 118-Martin (nr mt), 121-Berra (nr mt), 146-Wynn (nr mt), 153-Ford (vg, miscut and o/c), 160-Abrams (ex+-mt); Balance of High Numbers: Only one card appears not to have come from a pack in the fifties, #142-Miggins which is gd-vg. In addition there are two cards with exaggerated centering problems and # 159 shows some corner wear, The balance are near mint (and better).
