Lot 2. Complete E271 Darby Chocolate Box of Mike Mowery and Bob Bescher. E271 Darby’s are one of the hobbies toughest type cards. Most of the population of E271’s. were a group of cards tacked to a wall in a garage that went through a fire. The remaining Darby’s except for two acceptably cut cards were six boxes found in upstate New York. The box of Mowery-Bescher is one of those boxes. The box is complete except for a piece of the upper flap which has been torn off. The Bescher panel has a very light barely noticeable crease. The Mowery panel is minimally excellent +. The back of the box, or more accurately the inside, is excellent except for some negligible marks probably made by the candy. We had a fire damaged card of Tommy Leach go for $1,705 in our November 6, 2002 auction and we had one of the two original non fire damaged cards of go for $4,594 in our April 2001 auction.
