(gd-vg, pinhole in upper left), Tenney, NY NL (good, postally used), Doolan, Ph NL (near ex), Dooin, Ph NL (pinholes in UL and LR, otherwise vg-ex), Shannon, NY NL (vg-ex, postally used), Summers, Det. (vg, postally used, writing on front), Warner, Wash. (vg-ex), Criger (no team, fr-gd, postally used, was actually mailed to Criger) and Hostetter, St.L NL (ex).

Lot 270.  PC796 Anonymous Sepia postcards near set of 21 missing Cobb, Cobb-Wagner, Mathewson and Lajoie. Highlights: Bresnahan (gd-vg), Brown (gd, staple holes), Chance (gd-vg, staple holes), Collins (gd-vg, staple holes), Crawford (gd-vg, staple holes), Evers-Schaefer (gd-vg, staple holes), Johnson (gd), Plank (gd-vg, staple holes), Speaker (ex-mt), Wagner (vg) and Walsh (gd-vg, staple holes). Balance: Good and most have staple holes.

Lot 271.  PC799 Set of 24 1919 Champion Cincinnati Reds. 7 cards are ex-mt including Roush, 4 cards are excellent including Neale, 3 cards are very good, 1 card is good and 9 cards are excellent with a small circular punch hole.

Lot 272.  Rare 1910 Oakland Pacific Coast League real photo post card. One of 6 team cards from a very rare set representing the six teams in the PCL in 1910. From the estate of Carl Maggert who played briefly in the Majors in 1907 and 1912 but spent most of his career in the PCL. The card is excellent and postally used. Written in Maggert’s own hand in 1910 stating “We are the real thing and hope that Springfield can say the same thing. I would like to see Mr. Zellers win the old Flag this year. While Oakland won 112 games in 1910, they fell 2 games short and finished second. The Dingman Co. photo is the exact one used in the 1911 Reach guide (page 324).

Lot 273.  2 Real photo postcards representing baseball in Seattle in 1911. The first shows the Seattle team of the Northwest League probably from 1911. The postmark is 1912 and players are identified on the bottom as follows; Paris (trainer), Wally, Dolin, McIver, Barry (Mgr), Moe, Janes, Thompson, Stevens, Weed, Chick, Cruickshank, Mann and McMullen. The photographer is the Seattle Photographic Co. The card was apparently sent by the player Stevens to his mother with a note in his hand and signed R.S. The second card is of Art Bues, the North West League batting champ in 1911. Bues in shown posing in his Seattle uniform with a nice stadium background. Card was mailed by Bues in 1911 with a note signed “Art”. Excellent + on both cards.

Lot 274.  PC782 Rotograph Luther “Dummy” Taylor. Very rare postcard series from a prestigious maker featuring mostly Yankee and Giant pitchers. Taylor, in addition to being a quality pitcher for McGraw’s Giants, was deaf and was instrumental in teaching sign language to McGraw and others. The card has some neat writing at the bottom front, is clean on the back and is excellent.

Lot 275.  1914 Boston Braves Champion post card. Very rare team post card of the “Hitless Wonders”. Condition is off (see scan) and would grade good, but the photo area is complete and visible and shows the entire team including Maranville and Evers. The card is postally used in 1914 just two days after the Braves swept the World Series with the tell tale message “The only real team.

Lot 276.  Near Set of 10 Red Belt postcards missing “Opening of the Season, 1907”. Includes 6 cards taken in Cincinnati’s Palace of the Fans and one (“Safe”) taken in Boston’s Huntington Avenue Grounds. The 6 cards taken in the Palace of the Fans is highlighted by the card of Miller Huggins, very good, postally used in 1907 with good baseball content in the message. The other five cards average excellent, 3 are postally used, the card “Practice Makes Perfect” features pitcher Sam Leever of Pittsburgh which is noted on the message portion. “Safe” is used and good. The remaining three cards are all postally used and are vg-ex.

Lot 277.  1953-5 Dormand postcards near set. Exceptional group of 42, missing the Hodges rarity but including the even more difficult 9” x 12” Mickey Mantle and the rare and desirable 9” x 12” Phil Rizzuto. Collection includes both Collins cards, an unknown blank back Eddie Lopat, both regular size Mickey Mantles, both signature varieties of McDougald and both Johnny Sains. Highlights: Mantle 9x12 (ex appearance, small corner creases in two corners). Rizzuto 9x12 (very good, minor creasing), Mantle bat on shoulder (ex+-mt), Mantle batting (ex-mt), Berra (ex+-mt), Mize (ex+-mt), Stengel (nr mt), Campanella (nr mt), Reese (nr mt), Slaughter (nr mt), Konstanty (ex+-mt), Howard (ex+-mt), Skowron (ex-mt); Balance are ex-mt.
Minimum Bid $1,000.


Lot 278.  38 Pittsburgh Pirate Team issued post cards. As best we can tell 35 are autographed and include Atwell, Blackburn, Bunning, Castiglione, Gene Freese, Face (2), Friend (4, 3 auto), Groat, Hetkin, Hopp, Kiner, Kline (2), Law (5, 4 auto), Long, Lynch (2), Mazeroski, Johnny O’Brien, Peterson, Bud Pitchard, Purkey, Skinner, Swanson, Thomas (2, 1 auto), Virdon, Walsh, Waters and Werle. All are excellent, 26 are postally used (almost all between 1950 and 1960).

Lot 279.  176 different Cleveland team issued postcards from 1951 through the 1970’s ; About 40 are postally used, autographed cards from 1951 to 1955. In total, 150 are autographed. Signatures include Score (2), Boudreau, Avila (3), Feller (2), Rosen (2), Easter (2), Wynn, Doby, Mossi, Hegan (3), Lemon, Minoso, Colavito (3), Garcia (3), Carrasquel, Adcock, etc.
