Lot 297.  Exceptional NFL Hall of Fame autograph collection of 174 3 x 5 cards and 1 cancelled check (Fats Henry). The collection represents the best of the John Smith collection which was broken up several years ago. The signatures are almost all tens and the condition is exceptional. Highlights include Jim Thorpe, Dan Reeves, Guy Chamberlain, Jimmy Conzelman, Len Ford, Joe Guyon, Link Lyman, Earl L. Lambeau (back of small envelope from 1918), Steve Owen, George Marshall (cancelled check cut on 3x5), Johnny Blood McNally, Turk Edwards, Jim Finks, Dutch Clark, Bert Bell, Paul Brown, Dan Fortmann, George Halas, Red Grange, Bronco Nagurski, Ernie Nevers, Clark Hinkle, Don Hutson, Henry Jordan, Bobby Layne, Vince Lombardi, George Trafton, Norm Van Brocklin, Doak Walker, Bob Waterfield, etc. The collection includes Govt postcards which have been slightly cut down to 3x5 and several have notes from the players. Accumulated during a time when autograph requests were welcome from present and former players and considered flattery. A detailed list is available on request.

Lot 298.  Extraordinary run of 72 Rose Bowl Programs and 3 additional related programs from 1932-2004 missing only 1982. The first Rose Bowl program was in 1902 and there was not another until 1916 when they became annual. The run starts in 1932 (the 18th program) and continues thru 2004, missing only 1982. Included are a rare 1936 “unofficial” program (nr mt), 1971 Replay Book and a 1993 Press Guide. The group from 1932 to 1940 is above average condition. The 1932 and 1933 have light vertical fold creases. 1934, 1935, 1937-1939 have strips along the spine.The war years 1941 to 1943 including the very rarely seen 1942 game program at Durham are in excellent condition but have a strip of tape along the spine, the1944 to 1949 average vg-ex and everything from 1950 on is ex-mt to near mint. If you’re a PCL fan, a Big Ten fan or just a fan of college football this is a group to consider.

Lot 299.  November 16, 1940 Dartmouth-Cornell program. Famous “5th Down Game”. Played at Dartmouth’s Hanover campus. Cornell won the game on a disputed play with 3 seconds left when they were given a “fifth down”. Movies substantiated the error and Cornell relinquished the victory and Dartmouth was awarded a 3-0 victory. Cornell was undefeated that year and the previous year and the defeat broke their winning streak. The program is in ex-mt condition and has a nice Philip-Morris ad on the back cover.

Lot 300.  R329 National Chicle #35 Bronco Nagurski SGC 40 VG 3, One of the most coveted football cards. No creases, well centered, showing just corner wear.

Lot 301.  1935 Fancy Frame Wheaties near set of 7. Missing only Pop Warner, each panel is full and neatly cut and has the Wheaties bottom panel from the box. Includes are Red Grange (nr mt), Ernie Nevers (ex), Harry Kipke (ex), Howard Jones (vg), Benny Friedman (ex-mt), Chris Cagle (nr mt) and the fictional Jack Armstrong (ex+).
