Three pieces of 1880s Baseball Currency.

Lot 26. Three pieces of 1880s Baseball Currency. A popular advertising vehicle in the late 1880’s was selling scrip in the form of currency to major league teams to advertisers who would display their business on the rear of the bill and sometimes on the front. The offered lot has the 1888 Detroit team (Thompson, Brouthers, Hanlon, etc) with Manager Watkins on the reverse (gd-vg), the 1887 Detroit team (same players, excellent) and the 1887 Chicago team (Anson, Clarkson, Sunday, Ryan) with manager Spalding on the reverse (ex-mt). The 1887 Detroit snuck through without an ad which is unusual. It is interesting to note the player on the list of the ad side is Cap Anson regardless of the team.
Minimum Bid $500.
