Lot 286.  Extremely rare 1922 U.S. Open Badge. 1 3/4" Whitehead & Hoag Co. Pin (paper backing intact on rear) for the tournament held at the Skokie Country Club north of Chicago. Gene Sarazen won the open by a stroke over Bobby Jones, who finished 2nd in his third Open. It was Jones best Open finish to that time. The pin shows some foxing on its red blue and white finish. Still, an extremely early golf badge.
Winning Bid $500.

Lot 287.  1965 Ryder Cup Pennant and adjoining sheet signed by both teams. The pennant came from the estate of British member Jimmy Hitchcock. A 10" pennant on a 14" board has been nicely matted in a 16" x 20" frame. The pennant is signed by the entire U.S. team, including Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Captain Byron Nelson, Julius Boros, Dave Marr, Don January, Gene Littler, Ken Venturi, Johnny Pott and the ill-fated Tony Lema, who would die in a plane crash one year later. The signatures all rate 10's and are, appropriately enough, in red and blue. Ten members of the 11 man British team signed on the cardboard including Hitchcock, Peter Alliss, Neil Coles, Bernard Coles, Lionel Platts, Peter Butler, etc. The U.S. won easily at Royal Birkdale, 19 1/1- 12 1/2. Beautiful rare piece. Mike Gutierrez COA.
Winning Bid $1,064.
