Following is what is probably the finest and most complete Wheaties collection known from 1935-1941. It is offered on the pages, in the albums, it was housed in. John Spalding, the owner of the collection, originally wrote the series of articles on Wheaties in 1984, which revised and updated the checklists and knowledge of Wheaties baseball, football, basketball and miscellaneous sports that are still used in the hobby today. All the individual sets are mounted with photo corners on 3 hole black pagest.



Lot 39.  1935 Fancy Frame Script Signature (Baseball Series 1). Rarely offered high grade complete set of 27 measuring approximately 6 by 6 1/2 inches with full frame unless noted; 20 Ex-Mt including Cochrane-black cap, D. Dean, Foxx, Frisch, Gehrig, Grove, Hubbell, Ott and Simmons; 3 Ex+ (very difficult Cochrane-white cap, Martin-batting, pin holes in borders; Martin-port); 4 Ex (Bridges, pin hole in border; Collins; Dean Bros., 1st row of frame; Delaney); Group also includes 1930s Wheaties box front and two side panels (3 separate pieces).

Lot 40.  1936 Fancy Frame Printed Signature (Baseball Series 3). Complete set of 12 measuring approximately 6 by 6 1/2 inches with partial frame. 9 are Ex-Mt with 50% frame; 3 have full frame including Averill (Ex+ paste damage back), Gehrig (Ex-Mt) and Vaughan (Ex-Mt).

Lot 41.  1936 Thin Orange Border (Baseball Series 4). Complete set of 12 measuring approximately 6 by 8 1/4 inches with border; Very tough to find with any part of border intact. 3 Ex-Mt (Medwick); 4 Ex+ (Gehrig, Gehringer, Vaughan); 4 Ex (Grove, Ott); 1 Vg.

Lot 42.  1936 How to Play Winning Baseball (Baseball Series 5). Complete set of 12 plus the very rare Ott variation for a total of 13 panels, measuring approximately 6 by 8 1/4 inches; 1 is Ex-Mt (Averill); 5 are Ex+ (Appling, Dickey, Medwick, both Otts, larger image with tips to right has slight crease), 7 are Excellent (Gomez, Foxx, Gehringer, Dickey, Grove, Hubbell). Three (Foxx, Gehringer, Grove) are the numbered variety.

Lot 43.  1937 How to Star in Baseball (Baseball Series 6). Complete set of 12 measuring approximately 6 by 8 1/4 inches and the first Wheaties set with Joe DiMaggio; 1 Ex-Mt (Bonura); 5 Excellent+ (DiMaggio, Dickey, Manush, Medwick, Lewis); 5 vg-ex (Gehringer, Vaughan, Hubbell); 1 Vg (Ruffing) and 1 good (Grove, 2 punch holes near bottom).

Lot 44.  1937 The 29 Series (Baseball Series 7). Complete set of 12 major league panels measuring approximately 6 by 8 1/4 inches; 8 Ex-Mt (DiMaggio, Bonura, Travis, DeMaree, Moore, Martin, Bridges, Van Mungo); 2 Ex+ (Vaughan, Radcliff); 2 Very good (Lombardi and Trosky). Tough set.

Lot 47.  1938 Biggest Thrills (Baseball Series 10). Total 17 pieces, the set of 16 plus rare paper panel of Gehringer, same size and design as box panel (Ex+). Complete set of 16 measuring approximately 6 by 8 1/4 inches; 5 Ex-Mt includes Grove, Gehringer, Waner), 2 Ex+ includes Hubbell, 2 Excellent , 7 very good including DiMaggio (slight crease), Lombardi and Dean with 4 tack holes in corners.

Lot 48.  1938 Players in Dress Clothes (Baseball Series 11). Complete set of 8 measuring approximately 6 by 8 1/4 inches; 5 Ex-Mt (Foxx, Gehringer, Medwick); 2 Ex+ (Greenberg/Lawson, Lombardi/Grissom), 1 very good (Grove, light crease). One of the toughest baseball sets in extremely nice condition.

Lot 49.  1939 Personal Pointers (Baseball Series 12). Complete set of 9 measuring approximately 6 1/8 by 8 1/4 inches; 8 Ex-Mt including Foxx, Gomez, Greenberg, Lombardi, Medwick, Ott, Vaughan); 1 Very good (Bill Lee has a couple of small border chips in the right side). As nice a set as could exist.

Lot 50.  1939 100 Years of Baseball (Baseball Series 13). Complete set of 8 complete panels measuring approximately 6 by 8 1/4 inches. These usually are seen cut down to 6 by 6 3/4 without the text describing the set at the bottom.; Entire set is ex-mt except card #3 which has piece of bottom panel missing causing one line of type to be missing.
