Lot 341.  1920 Colored Collegiate Foot Ball Record by Scott and Chiles with Note signed by Arthur Ashe. This 4 3/8" x 7, 52 page book, is a virtual never-seen annual reviewing Black football. Has photos of teams and players. Includes a page on Lincoln University and their famous HOF coach Fritz Pollard. Our consignor loaned the book to the late tennis star Arthur Ashe for the latter's research and includes a thank you note on Ashe's card "I profusely apologize for any convenience. Thanks again. Arthur Ashe". The book has a small stain at the bottom and some items underlined inside but is otherwise in excellent condition.

Lot 342.  Red Grange, Bronko Nagurski and West Coast football photos. Original 1924 Underwood & Underwood wire photo of Harold "Red" Grange, Univ. of Illinois All-America halfback, and pro and college HOFer. The 9 1/4 by 6 1/2 B&W action photo shows the "Illinois Iceman" eluding two tacklers. Inserted in the upper left corner is 3 by 3 1/2 inch portrait of helmet-less Grange to the waist carrying the ball; The Nagurski B&W 8 by 10 is modern newspaper file photo showing the pro and college HOFer posed in the 1920s holding a football. Both Excellent. The West Coast football photos range from 1931-1988 and consists of 37 items with 33 wire photos and other original pictures of stadiums (4), players & coaches (9 pro, 16 college) and teams (4 pro) who appeared at San Francisco's Kezar Stadium or the Los Angeles Coliseum in college, pro or all-star games between 1931 and 1988. More than half the items are in the 1930s and 1940s. Includes four tough Falstaff color photos of 49ers teams 1957-60, a colorful 1930s Standard Oil display piece featuring the Santa Clara U. bucking Bronco, 3 tickets. HOF pros are McElhenny, Montana, Nomellini and HOF college coaches Casanova and Madigan; Condition is Mt (4), Ex (19), Vg-Ex (4), Vg (9), Good (1).

Lot 343.  Miscellaneous Football grab bag of 10 items. Highlights are a 1923 Northwestern-Illinois program with Red Grange in the lineup (ex) and an N305 Mayo Football card of Wrightington, Harvard (gd, no creases but no top border). Also 4 better postcards including a Rotograph of Robert Edeson, Harvard and Yale Game, Brown-Dartmouth scorecard postcard and Harvard Stadium. 1924 Exeter schedule and ticket stub (vg-ex), a 1969 Pro FB HOF Fact Book with Thorpe on the cover (ex) and a 1925 Official Football Rules (vg).

Highlights: 1-Walker (ex), 7-Gifford (ex+), 16-Conerly (ex+-mt), 37-Groza (nr mt), 52-Summerall (vg-ex), 62-Blanda (ex-mt), 71-Layne (ex-mt, o/c), 72-Tittle (ex), 152-Landry (SGC 88 NM/MT 8). Balance: Ten cards have a wrinkle or small crease, the balance are either excellent or ex-mt or better with possibly a dozen with centering issues.
