Lot 376.  1886 The Sporting Man's Companion published by the Police Gazette. Extremely rare Guide produced by Richard Fox, publisher of the Police Gazette. Coverage starts with baseball and continues to all sports. Many photos in the form of detailed woodcuts of athletes (no baseball), but many well known like Jack Dempsey, John L. Sullivan, many other boxers, Jockey Isaac Murphy (same pose as in the Buchner series) and many athletes in the Allen & Ginter sets. 232 pages and in fairly nice condition despite some small problems on the cover.
Minimum Bid $300.

Lot 377.  Group of 9 T227's including 2 baseball (1 graded) and 4 boxing (1 graded). Baseball are Marquard (SGC 40 VG 3) and Baker (fr-gd); Boxing are Attell (gd-vg), Johnson (fair), Klaus (gd) and Wolgast (SGC 60 EX 5); Others are Dixie IV (vg-ex), ESS HK (vg-ex) and Mulford (poor). Except for Marquard, Baker and Attell, all cards are tougher Miners Extra back.
Winning Bid $1,302.

Lot 378.  1949 blue tint Mixed Sport Exhibit near set of 31. Missing only the Ben Hogan card and the Jack Dempsey card, though a green tint Jack Dempsey has been included. The set was originally issued in 1948 as a black and white set of 32 (green tints of the set are also known and rarer). In 1949, the set was reissued with 14 new cards including 2 pose changes (Dick Button and Barbara Ann Scott). The 1949 issue had a much smaller print run and as a result the cards only issued in 1949 are extremely desirable, especially the new subjects. Sets are rarely offered, especially in the following condition. In the listed highlights, cards known only in the 1949 series are noted with an "*". For a detailed story on the 1948-9 Exhibits go the articles section on our web page and go to the end. Highlights: Baugh (ex-mt), Button (nr mt), Conacher* (nr mt), Dempsey (ex-mt), Dobbs* (ex+), Fulks* (ex-mt), Graham (nr mt), Harder (nr mt), Hoppe(nr mt), Jacobs (ex-mt), Louis (ex-mt), Luckman (nr mt), Lujack (ex), Mikan (nr mt), Motley* (nr mt), Phillip* (ex+-mt), Scott* (ex+), Turner (vg+), Van Buren (ex-mt) and Waterfield* (ex); Balance: 4 nr mt, 6 ex-mt, 1 excellent;
Winning Bid $1,952.
