Lot 15.  N172 Old Judge George Treadway, St. Paul 80 SGC EX/NM 6. Spectacular near perfect Old Judge card. Incredible photo quality, well centered, sharp corners and a perfectly clean back. Deserved a better grade.
Winning Bid $783.

Lot 16.  N173 Old Judge Cabinet Fred Dunlap, Pittsburgh PSA Authentic. Familiar pose of the Pirate Captain “sliding”. The “Authentic” grade refers to some minor paper loss and paste stains on the back. The card is full size, presents well and should be a welcome addition to any collection.
Winning Bid $783.

Lot 17.  N284 Buchner Gold Coin Dan Brouthers SGC 50 VG/EX 4. This is the much rarer and more desired Brouthers from the 3rd series where the cards, unlike the first series, are actual depictions of the player. The card is a solid excellent + but is off center to the left on the front and back affecting the grade.
Winning Bid $783.

Lot 18.  N284 Buchner Gold Coins of John Corbett, La Crosse and Tom Morrissey, Milwaukee SGC graded. Both cards are from the rare third series. The Corbett is a beautifully centered card with sharp corners and deserved higher than the SGC60 EX 5 it received. The front of the Morrissey card is similar however there is some soiling and a tiny spot of paper loss and is a truly nice SGC 30 GOOD 2.
Winning Bid $440.

Lot 19.  Hastings Print of the 1888 Boston Baseball Club. 9 3/4” x 7” engraved print. The Hasting studio, along with G. Walden Smith were Boston's two famous baseball photographers. This magnificent photographic engraving shows a game in progress with Boston in the field. The features are so distinct that actual players can actually be identified. John Clarkson is clearly on the mound and Capt. John Morill is at first base. It appears to be Mike Kelly in centerfield. The print is in excellent + condition and the back has some light age spots on an otherwise blank back.
Minimum Bid $1,000.

Lot 20.  W.S. Kimball Champions, near set of 42 cards, including all 4 baseball. The missing are Jack Dempsey, John McPherson, John Murphy, Annie Oakley, William Page, Jem Smith, Hattie Stewart and Tommy Warren. Condition is mixed ranging from poor to ex-mt. The breakdown is as follows: Baseball: Henderson (fair-good), Burch (very good), Darling (poor-fair), O'Neil (excellent appearance with small spot of back damage). Other Highlights: John L. Sullivan (very good), Isaac Murphy (near excellent), Cardiff (gd-vg), Perry-boy boxer (ex-mt, o/c), McLaughlin (excellent), Ross (excellent+). The card is excellent and has a clean blank back. Also a Buck Ewing from the 1st series with a very good front and album remnants covering most of the ad back. Also Hugh Nicol from the 2nd Series featuring St. Louis Browns (vg-ex) and Farrell from the tough 3rd series. Good with the ad back.
Winning Bid $1,209.

Lot 22.  Extremely rare “Souvenir of The Baseball Season of 1889”, published by The Mercury of Philadelphia. A 16 page, 17 ¼” x 12” Supplement with each page allocated to one of the 16 major leagues in the National League and American Association. The “front page” features the National League Champion New York Giants, reproducing a composite cabinet with photos of the Giants used in S.F. cards and elsewhere. The page also carries a lengthy article on the Giants. The backside of the Cover shows the American Association Champion Brooklyn team. Credit for that photo is the LEVYTYPE Co. of Philadelphia and is one of the Photo plates that were used in the notable volume, Athletic Sports in America. The fact is, all the team photo plates used in Athletic Sports are reproduced here, but with the identification of all the players, which are missing in the book All the pages take the same format and are unnumbered. Technically, any page could be the cover. Condition is decent, there is some tape on the spine and other spots along the edges, but overall in good condition. Have never seen this offered before and I only know of one other copy.
Minimum Bid $750.

Lot 23.  N300 Mayo Bill “Brickyard” Kennedy. Beautiful card of the 1890’s Brooklyn pitcher, who won 176 games in 9 years from 1892-1901. An excellent+ appearance, with two tiny spots of wear at the top. Two pieces of barely noticable transparent tape remain on the back.
Winning Bid $400.

Lot 24.  N300 Mayo of Hall of Fame pitcher John Clarkson. Clarkson was near the end of his relatively short career. He pitched with Cleveland in 1894 and the “St. Louis” on the uniform has always been a mystery. Clarkson never pitched with St. Louis. The card appears ex-mt on the front but there has been some retouching in the upper corners. Nicely centered, minimum wear and a nearly clean back.
Minimum Bid $600.

Lot 25.  Four N300 Mayo baseball players. Group includes Jack Glasscock, Louisville. (Nice appearance, off-center and some paper loss on the rear), Arlie Latham, Cincinnati (very nice excellent appearing card with a clean back, however there is a notch on the lower left side of the card (see scan), Dave Foutz, Brooklyn. (poor-fair) and Mike Griffin, Brooklyn (good, clean back).
Winning Bid $484.

Lot 26.  Harry Stovey’s Personal Scrapbook. Acquired in the 1980’s from a man named Warren Goff from New Bedford, Massachusetts who was a lifelong personal friend of Stovey and was at one time engaged to his daughter. Stovey (born Harry Stowe) gave many of his artifacts to Goff including the majority of the Kalamazoo Bat Cabinets known in the hobby today. The contents of the scrapbook are in excellent condition, however, the scrapbook itself is not, with all pages and covers loose. The scrapbook was put together during Stovey’s career, from the late 19th century through his days as Fire Chief at New Bedford and his death in 1937. The book is filled with newspaper clippings from Stovey’s career in baseball and subsequently in New Bedford. Highlights of the scrapbook are a cardboard Lifetime National League pass issued to Stovey in mint condition with the original envelope (The pass is loose in the envelope). There is a newspaper clipping of Stovey holding the pass in the book. A wonderful 1936 letter from NL President Ford Frick to Stovey and two letters from Connie Mack (one is secretarial) to Stovey reminiscing on their playing days in the 1880’s. The other was to Stovey’s daughter wishing Stovey good health. There are a few letters from Sportswriter James Hendy, who was active in selecting All Time All Star teams. The clippings include several woodcuts including several obscure teams.
Winning Bid $1,210.
