Rarely seen near set of 44 V94 Canadian Butterfingers.

Lot 64. Rarely seen near set of 44 V94 Canadian Butterfingers. Issued in 1934 as a premium with Butterfinger candy, this is the Canadian version of the R310 Butterfinger set and is much rarer. V94 is the designation in the American Card Catalog, this large format (6-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches) black and white set is printed on thin stock. This set is almost identical to the U.S. Butterfinger issue (R310) but is smaller and includes a number of players not found in the U.S. series. Offered is an exceptional near-complete set featuring 44 of the supposedly 55 cards now known. This does not include Ruth, Gehrig and the Foxx spelling varieties which have never been seen. In 2001, when we sold Don McPherson’s V94’s, the set was believed to be complete at 50. Since then others have been found and this group includes 3 of the new discoveries (Brown, Cramer and Fullis). Highlights: Averill (ex-mt), Bottomley (ex-mt appearance, pinhole and pencil mark on rear), Cochrane (ex-mt, pencil mark on back), Cronin (ex), Dean (ex-mt), Dickey (ex), Ferrell (ex, 2 pinholes), Foxx (Vg -Ex), Gehringer (good), Gomez (good), Grove (ex-mt, pinhole), Hafey (ex-mt), Harris (vg), Hoyt (vg-ex), and Simmons (ex-mt).
