Lot 184. Complete SGC Graded Set of 50 1900 Copes Tobacco Golf Cards. Generally considered to be the pre-eminent golf set. A numbered set of 50 cards featuring skillfully done drawings of actual golfers and others of humorous golf scenes. Lot 196. 1930 W560 rare red and black cards of Bobby Jones and Walter Hagan SGC graded. W560 were printed two ways. First, more commonly in red OR black in 1927 and then later another set with some new subjects in 1930 in red AND black. The red and black set is significantly rarer and among the new subjects were the two dominant golfers of the era, Bobby Jones and Walter Hagan. The Hagan is graded SGC 40 VG 3 and the Jones is graded SGC A. There is some light soiling on the Jones card and it appears a heavy object left an indentation on the rear which doesn’t show through to the front. Both slabbed cards indicate the issue date is 1927, which is incorrect. In fact, the Hagan card makes mention of him winning the 1929 British Open. Two very rare cards.
Winning Bid $1,264.
