Lot 3. N172 Goodwin Old Judge Spotted Tie SGC near set of 15 missing the Stephen Behel card. Seldom offered, the highlight of any Old Judge collection. Representing the 1886 New York Metropolitans of the American Association, the cards were among the first N172’s issued. The near set includes Stephen Brady (SGC 20 FAIR 1.5), Joe Crotty (SGC 60 EX 5), Ed Cushman (SGC 20 FAIR 1.5), Jim Donohue (SGC 50 VG/EX 4), Tom Forster (SGC 40 VG 3), Elmer Foster (SGC 20 FAIR 1.5), Frank Hankinson (SGC 20 FAIR 1.5), Bill Holbert (SGC 50 VG/EX 4), Jack Lynch (SGC A), Al Mays (SGC 20 FAIR 1.5), Tom McLaughlin (SGC 60 EX 5), Jack Nelson (SGC 40 VG 3), Dave Orr (SGC 20 FAIR 1.5), Charles “Ripslager” (SGC 50 VG/EX 4) and Chief Roseman (SGC 84 NM 7). The condition is overall very nice with one card a 7, two cards 5’s, 3 cards 4, 2 cards are 3, 6 cards are 1.5 and one is graded “A”. Most of the lower grades have been penalized greatly for glue remains on the rear. All the fronts and backs are shown in 4 scans. This may be the first time a near set of Spotted Ties has been offered at auction.
