Lot 225.  Manhattan Shirts Broadside with John Montgomery Ward. Circa 1890, full color litho of seven well known athletes of the period, several of which are in the first Allen & Ginter Champion series. The athletes are identified at the bottom including Ward who is on the left. Ward is holding a baseball bat and wearing a cap. The top of the broadside reads in script “The Manhattan Shirts are the Best in the World” advertising on the sail of the boat in the background. The piece measures 13” x 27” and is framed and matted (16 1/2” x 30”). There are some minor creases and surface wear. There are two natural folds, allowing the piece to be folded in thirds and distributed to retail outlets. The lower left corner shows a small piece missing. Very good-Excellent striking display.

Lot 226.  1906 Chicago Cubs Wagner “Proof” Photograph identical to the one used for a popular Postcard of the Champion Cubs. Measuring 13 1/4” x 9 1/4”. The photo quality is extraordinary but there is a small chip in the upper right corner. 18 players are illustrated including Tinker, Evers, Chance and Mordecai Brown. A key to the players is enclosed.

Lot 227.  1913 Inside Baseball Game. As described in the 1995 book “Baseball Games”, a beautiful lithographed tin playing board and spinner, it has metal discs with the name, position and team of the players in the 1913 World Series between the Giants and Athletics. The discs are exceedingly rare, according to Cooper’s book on Baseball Games. There are 18 of the aforementioned discs including Mathewson, Plank, Collins, etc and the board and spinner are in excellent condition. It was valued 15 years ago at $450-$1,000 in Mark Cooper’s book on baseball games.

Lot 228.  Complete Unfolded R342 Goudey Flip Movie Box. Originally from the Woody Gelman collection. Beautiful box in red, white, blue and yellow, show a hand opening flip movie with silhouettes from various sports below. Measure 19 1/2” x 14” at its widest points. Only one known and in the best possible condition. Three negligible wrinkles in the outside flaps keep this from being mint. Includes original matte and frame but should be reframed to show front and back of folded box.

Lot 229.  R326 Goudey Blueprint (actually brown) Press proof of the box that contained the Goudey Flip Movies. Measuring 17 1/2” x 21” shows the entire layout of the box, top, sides and bottom. Approval is initialed in the lower right corner in pen and dated 4/8/38. Next to it is written “Press Proof Big League Action Box 1938”. Remarkable Goudey associated item. Excellent with normal folds a small 2” separation reinforced with archival tape.

Lot 230.  Large 2 foot by 3 foot 1935 Detroit Tiger Champions Advertising Display. This orange, black and white display depicts 9 players from the Tigers 1935 Championship team including their 4 Hall of Famers, Hank Greenberg, Goose Goslin, Charlie Gehringer and Mickey Cochrane. The other players are Pete Fox and pitchers Elden Auker, Alvin Crowder, Schoolboy Rowe and Tommy Bridges. The display shows some staining at the top and there’s a tear in the upper right corner. Still a striking piece.

Lot 231.  Group of 25 1959 Hartland Sports Figurines and 1963 Hall of Fame Busts. Hartlands include 1959 Jon Arnett football, original 1963 Hartland Golfer and Bowler and 6 1988 Hartlands. Five are in their original boxes and include Yogi Berra, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial and Hank Aaron. There is another Aaron missing the box. There are 3 from 1990, Lou Gehrig, Roberto Clemente and Dizzy Dean, in their original packaging but missing the box. From 1992-3 there are statues of Honus Wagner, Cy Young, Johnny Unitas and Nolan Ryan in their original boxes and the 1994 “Safe at Second” in the original plastic bag. In addition, there are 8 1963 HOF Busts. Traynor is in the original box and Dickey, Ruth, Gehrig (some damage on the plaque), Cobb, Hornsby, Johnson and another Traynor. Condition is ex-mt and better.

Lot 232.  Complete set of 1963 Hall of Fame Busts and original Hartland Statue of Babe Ruth with bat. The 1963 HOF Busts are a series of 20 statues issued and sold by Baseball's Hall of Fame who commissioned a Long Island based company (Sports Hall of Fame inc.) to make miniature replicas of 20 of the existing Hall of Fame busts. There were two separate series of 10, with the second series being slightly rarer than the first. The busts included are Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio. Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Lou Gehrig , Honus Wagner , Ty Cobb, Mickey Cochran, Joe Cronin , Bill Dickey, Bob Feller, Jimmie Foxx, Hank Greenberg, Rogers Hornsby, John McGraw, Jackie Robinson, George Sisler, Tris Speaker, Pie Traynor, Paul Waner. All of the busts are without their original boxes and are in near mint condition except for McGraw which has a minor scrape at the edge of the printed inscription.
