Ernie Davis.

Lot 283. Ernie Davis. Perhaps the most sought after collegiate Hall of Famer. Davis died of Leukemia at the age of 23 after a remarkable career at Syracuse. Davis signed his name on a blank 3x5 with crossed red lines and beneath wrote “Shirley, My biggest thrill came in the Cotton Bowl.” In that game Davis ran for one touchdown, caught a pass for another, caught two two-point conversion passes and had one interception (he played offense and defense) as Syracuse won the 24th Cotton Bowl 23-14 over Texas in Dallas to clinch the National championship.
