Lot 352.  ca 1923 Exhibition ticket for a match featuring 3 golf greats Ouimet, Hagan and Sarazen. The 2 1/8” circular paper ticket with a metallic border featured a match between Walter Hagan, Gene Sarazen, Francis Ouimet and Joe Kirkwood at the private Charles River Country Club just west of Boston. Ouimet was a member there. The rear of the ticket has a number in red and indicates GUEST CHARLES RIVER COUNTRY CLUB.

Lot 353.  Rare ticket from the 1929 U.S. Amateur Championship at Pebble Beach. In a surprise, Harrison Johnston won the Match play event, while Bobby Jones, who won the event 4 of the previous 5 years, didn’t survive the first round. The ticket has some flaws including a small tear, a tackhole and a crease. Still, a rarely seen ticket.

Lot 354.  1939 PGA Championship Badge from Pomonok Country Club in Flushing, N.Y. Henri Picard won the Championship barely defeating Byron Nelson, 1 up. The rare 13/4” Press badge is in excellent condition.

Lot 355.  Contestants Badge for the 1940 Bing Crosby Pro-Am at Rancho Sante Fe. Bing Crosby’s world famous Pro-Am played on the Monterey Peninsula for many years actually started in 1937 at Rancho Sante Fe Golf Club. It was there for the years through 1942 and then resumed after WW II on Monterey in 1947. Any artifacts from the years at Rancho Sante Fe are extremely rare. This bronze contestant‘s badge, from the 1940 tournament, measures only 1”. The clasp is intact on the back and the badge is in excellent to mint condition. The 1940 tournament was won by Ed “Porky” Oliver.

Lot 356.  1941 U.S. Open Grounds Badge for the first 3 rounds at Colonial. The Open, the last until 1946, was won by Craig Wood. The red oval badge is 2 3/4” wide.

Lot 357.  1941 Final Round Masters ticket autographed by Ben Hogan, Craig Wood, Sam Byrd and Byron Nelson. The four signatures represent the first four finishers. Wood won the tournament by 3 strokes over Byron Nelson. Byrd finished third and Hogan fourth. It was Hogan’s first top 5 finish at Augusta. Hogan signed on the front, the others signed on the back. A 2004 GAI COA is included, signed by Mike Gutierrez. The ticket has a couple of small light creases and was previously in the Mark Emerson collection.

Lot 358.  1946 Masters Tickets for Saturday and Sunday rounds. Tickets from the final two rounds, both with their original string. The Saturday ticket is in near mint condition and the Sunday has a vertical crease. Ben Hogan came from 5 strokes back on Sunday to nearly catch Herman Keiser who won by a stroke.

Lot 359.  Extremely rare 1947 Masters Radio Badge with ribbon. The 1947 Press Badge, which is seldom encountered, is even rarer when found with a ribbon attached. The tournament was won by Jimmy Demaret by 2 strokes over Byron Nelson and Frank Stranahan. The 2 1/2” badge is in excellent condition and the 4” ribbon shows very slight wear.

Lot 360.  1949 Ryder Cup ticket set of 3 from the matches at Ganton Golf Club in England. A daily ticket for all 3 days including the practice round. Tickets show some wear but overall are in excellent condition. The U.S. team came back to win with Ben Hogan as their captain. Hogan couldn’t play because of his automobile accident earlier in the year.

Lot 361.  1953 US Open Press Badge and ribbon for the Open held at the Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburgh. Badges with ribbons are rarely seen and are rare. This one is especially desirable as Ben Hogan won his fourth and final Open defeating Billy Casper by two strokes. The badge measures 3” and has a 3” ribbon.

Lot 362.  1957 PGA Contestants Badge. The contestant’s badge was in the form of a Money Clip. The PGA was won by Lionel Herbert that year, although there is no way of knowing what badges were assigned to which player. In excellent condition.

Lot 363.  1958 Masters Series ticket from Arnold Palmer’s first Masters win. Rare “Series” ticket allowing entrance to all four rounds and considerably more desirable than the one day tickets. Palmer won by a stroke over Doug Ford and Fred Hawkins. He would go on to win 3 others. The ticket shows some wear but has it’s original string.

Lot 364.  1958 PGA Championship Badge Llanerch Country Club near Colorado Springs. Dow Finsterwald won the Championship barely defeating Byron Nelson, 1 up. The 13/4” Press badge is in excellent condition.

Lot 365.  1961 Masters First Round ticket. Gary Player won on the last hole to turn a one stroke defeat into a one stroke victory. He defeated Arnold Palmer, who was going for his 2nd straight Masters and 3rd in four years. Also one stroke back was Charles Coe, an Amateur. Player’s victory was the first Masters victory for an International Player. The green ticket has its original string and is in near mint condition except for a very small stain on the right edge.
Minimum Bid $350.


Lot 366.  1965 Masters Contestant’s Badge with #5. The red and white Badge belonged to Nick Weslock, which can be confirmed by checking the #5 on any 1965 pairing sheet. The 1965 Masters was the second Masters win for Jack Nicklaus easily defeating Arnold Palmer by an unheard of 9 strokes. Nicklaus finished 17 under par. The deficit would be a Masters record until Tiger Woods runaway in 1997. The badge is in near mint condition. While Nick Weslock is a name unknown to most of us, he in fact was one of Canada’s great amateur golfers winning seven Ontario Opens, 8 Ontario Amateurs and 4 Canadian Amateurs and is in Canada’s Hall of Fame.
