Lot 1.  B18 Blankets complete High Grade Master set of 181. B18’s were issued for nine players on ten major league teams in two color combinations for each team. The result was 180 items. One of the players, Cavanaugh of Detroit, was issued with his name with a "K" instead of a "C". That is the 181st blanket. Several color combinations are quite difficult including the nine Brown infields for both Detroit and Boston as well as the nine yellow bases and paths for both Cleveland and St. Louis NL. Our consignor started collecting B18’s in the mid 1970’s, completed the set and was constantly upgrading. The set includes Joe Jackson (both difficult, especially the yellow) and Ty Cobb (the Brown infield especially difficult). The resultant set is left with three blankets (Graney, Turner and Dolan), which while in nice condition, could be upgraded. The balance is ex-mt to near mint. The three are shown on our web page. The B18’s are housed in two three ring binders with the two blankets for each player neatly mounted with photo corners on each side of a black sheet. A spectacular collection.
Winning Bid $12,974.

Lot 2.  Fabulous extremely rare group of 17 Whitehead & Hoag Pacific Coast League PM5 Pins issued in 1912. The offered group are all of Oakland Oak players. It is believed that a complete set (none known) consists of 26 subjects with players from Oakland, Portland, San Francisco and Sacramento. The 3/4" pins were issued in black and white, though some are known in blue, which are considerably rarer. The rarity of the pins were apparently caused by their being pulled from a promotion which was in conflict with an exclusive for distributing photos of PCL ballplayers. A copy of the "Notice to the Public" discontinuing the pins is included with the lot. The group includes Ables, Christian, Cook (*), Coy (*), Gregory, Hamilton, Hetling, Hille, Hoffman, Leard (*), Mitze (*), Parkins, Pope, Sharpe, Smith, Tiedman & Zacher (*). The blue tint pins are noted by an (*). Only 4 pins are without their original paper backings (Coy, Gregory, Hetling and Smith) and all the pins give a near mint appearance.
Winning Bid $6,050.

Lot 3.  1870 Carte de Visite of the Forest City team SGC graded 40 VG 3. One of the great early teams from baseball’s infancy highlighted by Al Spaulding, Ross Barnes and Bob Addy. Photographed by D.R. Town, the CDV features 9 oval vignettes surrounding a larger one of Forest City President J.P. Manny. All the players are identified and a handwritten key is provided for those not that clear. The 4" x 2 7/16" card is presented in an attractive mount with thin red borders. The card shows some light fading and has a predominantly clean back.
Winning Bid $18,997.

Lot 4.  1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle, New York Yankees PSA VG-EX 4. The hobbies most desired modern card, Graded PSA VG-EX 4. Nicely centered with minor corner wear. Could easily have been graded an "EX 5". The balance of the complete set of 1952 High numbers can be found in the "Late Additions" at the end of the auction.
Winning Bid $12,974.

Lot 5.  N175 1887 Goodwin Large Gypsy Queen of Danny Richardson graded SGC 20 FAIR 1.5. One of the more prestigious cards of the 19th century. The large Gypsy Queens were issued for only 9 players with the best guess of existing quantities being from 1 to 5 for each. The card of Richardson has an excellent+-mint appearance on the front, however the rear has brown paste stains causing severe downgrading by SGC. Still, a card anyone would be proud to own.
Winning Bid $10,721.

Lot 6.  1890 G. Waldon Smith Players League Cabinet of the Boston Club SGC graded 30 GOOD 2. G. Waldon Smith, one of the more famous photographers of the era, especially of baseball teams in the Boston area gave us very rare pieces of memorabilia of the Players League teams. The Boston team won the Players League Championship and featured Dan Brouthers, Mike Kelly, "Hoss" Radbourn (his last year in Boston and next to last year in baseball) and Harry Stovey (in his first year with any Boston team). Kelly stands out in the middle row, with Stovey over his left shoulder and Brouthers over his right shoulder. Radbourn is on Kelly’s left and Bill Nash is seated on the left. The card itself, despite the grade is among the nicest you could find. It was graded absurdly low apparently because of the familiar G. Waldon Smith rubber stamp on the front and back of the card which was "as issued".
Winning Bid $8,785.

Lot 7.  PC743 Bregstone Postcard group of 22 real photo postcards of the St. Louis teams with 4 Hall of Famers. A massive set produced in St. Louis over the years 1908-1911 depicting at least 56 players from the St. Louis Browns and Cardinals. The cards all carry the AZO or KRUKO designation with the arrows pointing upward for the AZO’s. Several cards have a light pencil notation on the rear in the handwriting of great collector Buck Barker (noted by (wr)). Several other cards have pinholes, indicated by "ph". The grades indicated are without consideration for the writing or pinholes. Included from the St. Louis Browns- Bailey (ex), Criss (ex, wr), Dineen (ex-mt), Grahame (ex-mt, wr), Griggs (ex), Hartzell (ex, wr), Howell (ex, Charles Barker rubber stamp on rear), Jones (ex-mt, wr), McAleer (ex+, wr), Patterson (ex-mt), Pelty (ex-mt, wr), Schweitzer (ex-mt front, wr, sm piece of tape on rear), Smith (ex, much pencil notation) Stone (ex), Waddell (gd-vg), Wallace, (ex, 4 ph), Williams (ex+), Included from the St. Louis Cardinals- Bresnahan (ex, wr), Charles (vg wr), Konetchy (ex, 4 ph), O'Hara,(ex, wr) and Willis (ex, 4 phs).

Lot 9.  1887 Set of 18 Scrapps completely graded by SGC. Very rarely offered 19th Century set featuring 9 die cut cards each of the 1888 American Association Champion St. Louis Browns and N.L. Champion Detroit Tigers. The players selected are the actual starting lineups for each team. The condition of the Browns is outstanding. Not a crease to be seen and some light staining as is usual. The backs of the Browns have a piece of album page which has actually helped maintain the stability of the cards but as a result the grades by SGC are much lower that would be expected from the appearance. St. Louis Browns - Comiskey (Poor 1), Bushong (Poor 1), Caruthers (Poor 1), Foutz (Poor 1), Gleason (Poor 1), Latham (Poor 1), O’Neill ((Poor 1), Robinson (Poor 1), Welch (A); Detroit Tigers - Brouthers (GOOD 2), Dunlap (GOOD 2), (GOOD 2), Richardson (FAIR 1.5), Rowe (FAIR 1.5), Thompson (A), White (A), Bennett (A), Getzein (A).
