Fabulous extremely rare group of 17 Whitehead & Hoag Pacific Coast League PM5 Pins issued in 1912.

Lot 2. Fabulous extremely rare group of 17 Whitehead & Hoag Pacific Coast League PM5 Pins issued in 1912. The offered group are all of Oakland Oak players. It is believed that a complete set (none known) consists of 26 subjects with players from Oakland, Portland, San Francisco and Sacramento. The 3/4" pins were issued in black and white, though some are known in blue, which are considerably rarer. The rarity of the pins were apparently caused by their being pulled from a promotion which was in conflict with an exclusive for distributing photos of PCL ballplayers. A copy of the "Notice to the Public" discontinuing the pins is included with the lot. The group includes Ables, Christian, Cook (*), Coy (*), Gregory, Hamilton, Hetling, Hille, Hoffman, Leard (*), Mitze (*), Parkins, Pope, Sharpe, Smith, Tiedman & Zacher (*). The blue tint pins are noted by an (*). Only 4 pins are without their original paper backings (Coy, Gregory, Hetling and Smith) and all the pins give a near mint appearance.
