Lot 47.  The Red Stocking Polka. Six page piece of 10½" x 14” sheet music dedicated on the cover to the “Boston, B.B. Club” in 1875. This was the last year of the National Association, just before the start of the National League. And the Red Stockings, under Manager Harry Wright compiled an amazing 71 and 8 record. 1875, was the last year Harry Wright played in a “major league” game. The cover pages have a partial separation but otherwise all the pages are in excellent condition.

Lot 48.  1888 New York Giant tobacco Trade Card with six Hall of Famers. Very rare trade card (only one known) featuring the great New York Giant team of the late 1880’s. Featured is a composite of 11 Giants including six Hall of Famers, Mickey Welch, Tim Keefe, Buck Ewing, John Ward, James O’Rourke and Roger Connor. The card measures 9” x 5”. The rear carries advertising for the City Hall Cigar Store on Park Row in downtown Manhattan. There is a strip of minor reinforcement on the left rear side and is otherwise in excellent condition.

Lot 49.  N172 Old Judge Ewing & Mascot. Very popular 1889 card of Ewing with the mascot, a youngster named Willie Breslin. The card has a pink cast, which from what I’ve seen, has no negative affect on grading. The card is nicely centered with sharp corners and the back is clean except for a couple of tiny tobacco spots. At least ex-mt.

Lot 50.  N172 Old Judge John Barnes, St. Paul SGC 40 VG 3. The distinguished St. Paul manager has an excellent image, reasonably sharp corners and a clean back and could have been graded excellent.

Lot 51.  N172 Old Judge Tom Dolan, Denver, SGC 40 VG 3. Tough card, well centered. Tiny defect at the bottom and a light image.

Lot 52.  N172 Chippy McGarr, Kansas City, SGC 50 VG-EX 4. Clean dark image, well centered and a clean back. At least a solid excellent.

Lot 53.  N172 Reddy Walsh, Omaha, SGC 40 VG 3. The card is actually an error, a misidentified Old Judge card. The player is Egyptian Healy. The rare card has no creases and has a clean back.
Minimum Bid $500.


Lot 54.  N172 Old Judge group of 6 cards. All but one graded authentic by either PSA or SGC. The ungraded card is the very popular “Whitney & Dog”. Nice photo quality on the 1887 numbered card but a damaged upper right corner, some small scribbling by the name and part of an album page on the back. The 3 PSA graded cards are Cody, Des Moines, Jim Powell, Sioux City and G. Whitney, St. Louis. All are 1889 cards. 2 GAI graded cards are Mike Mattimore, N.Y. and a card identified as “Kid” Nichols which is Sam Nichols of Pittsburgh.

Lot 55.  1888 Watson Cabinet of Bill Serad. Serad pitched two years for Buffalo in 1884-5 and then 2 more for Cincinnati in 1887-8. The near mint cabinet taken by the Watson Studio is a known Old Judge pose (407-3).

Lot 56.  1888 Watson Cabinet of John O’Connor. O’Connor had a long major league career stretching from the Cincinnati AA club in 1887 to 1907. The near mint cabinet taken by the Watson Studio is of considerable interest as the pose is not a known Old Judge pose despite the Goodwin Copyright indication.

Lot 57.  1888 Levi & Gold Clarence “Kid” Baldwin. Near mint appearing cabinet depicting the 19th century infielder who was in the majors from 1884-1890, mostly with Cincinnati. Produced by the prominent Cincinnati photographer Levi & Gold. The pink toned back shows some evidence of an adhesive strip that may have been attached at the top, otherwise perfectly clean.

Lot 58.  1888 Fredericks & Koester Cabinet of Leon Viau. Near mint portrait by a St. Paul Studio. The back is blank and clean. Viau pitched over 5 years, starting with Cincinnati in 1888 and achieved his most success there winning 49 games over 1888-1889.

Lot 59.  Baker Studio Cabinet of Cincinnati Red manager Gus Schmelz. Near mint Studio Portrait from Baker’s Art Gallery. Schmelz managed over a span of 13 years, achieving most success with Cincinnati in 1887-1889.

Lot 60.  N284 Buchner James Ferguson and 1884 Program with Peck & Snyder advertising. The Buchner of Ferguson, Philadelphia is a solid excellent. The generic score card has no lineups on the inside but has rarely seen and highly sought after Peck & Snyder advertising on the front and back covers.

Lot 61.  Four ca 1890-1910 Mayo tobacco tins and one Allen & Ginter. Two of the Mayo Tins are the black and gold “lunch pail” variety measuring 8” x 5” x 4”, a third is blue and gold, measuring 6” x 3 ½” x 3”, the 4th tin is a Mayo black and gold cylinder measuring 6 ½” high and 5” in diameter showing some wear. Last is an Allen & Ginter green and gold tin measuring 4 ½” x 3 ½” x 2 ¼”. All are in about excellent condition.
