The John Cotton Ltd sets of 1936-1938.
4 Lots
In 1936-1938 a Scottish tobacconist, John Cotton Ltd., produced 3 card sets (one each year), in the form of thumb movies. Each set consisted of 50 cards and showed two movies, one on each side. The sides were numbered 1 –50 preceded by a letter. Each card had an indentation near the bottom of the cards, where it is assumed the cards could be rubber banded to view the movie. All the movies portray British Golfer Archie Compston. The 36 set is difficult, the 1937 is very difficult and the 1938 set is genuinely scarce.
Lot 364. 1949 Exhibit Co. Champions Ben Hogan SGC 80 EX/NM 6. The Hogan has become the most desirable card in the 1949 Blue Tint Exhibit set. With the more expensive George Mikan also being in the similar and much more common 1948 set and with the increase in popularity of golf cards the Hogan has become, the most desirable card in the set. Offered is a near perfect card with a clean back and its not clear what SGC saw that kept this from a Near mint grade.
Winning Bid $726.
