Unusual ticket from 1906 Phillies forfeited game.

Lot 291. Unusual ticket from 1906 Phillies forfeited game. Rare ticket has date of game, June 9, 1906, the score (assumed to be before the forfeit, Pittsburgh 7, Phil 1) and the notation June 9th FORFEIT 9-0. Pittsburgh scored 7 runs in the top half of the 8th inning with the help of several intentional misplays by Philadelphia. According to the Chicago Tribune “The Phillies, who were leading at the end of seven 1-0, thought the game should be called because of darkness and a pending rainstorm. One pitcher hit a batter and committed a balk, and when challenged about it, got mad and refused to pitch. The umpire asked him to leave. His replacements threw wildly and refused to play right. With no prospects of the team making any outs, umpire Bill Klem called the game in favor of the visiting team. On the way to his dressing room, Klem was the target of seat cushions and pop bottles. The ticket is excellent.
