Lot 174. 6 Rare R310 Butterfingers Merchants Advertising cards. The 1934 Butterfingers set of 64 (plus a variation) are usually found on a very thin paper stock. Less known, and much rarer are a group of 11 subjects found on a thick cardboard stock, with a red advertising overprint along the top with Butterfinger’s logo. These are known to be advertising inserts used by the storekeeper to stand upright in the Candy boxes. Since they weren’t actually offered to the public, their rarity is easy to understand. Offered here are 6 of the 11 as follows: Bartell (vg, stain in lower left borders), Boyle (vg, light stain in lower border), Carleton (near excellent), Frey (vg, light stain at top left border and a chip), O'Farrell (vg, light stain in lower border), and Swetonic (vg-Ex, tiny stain in upper corners).
