  9 Lots

Also see lots 7, 8, 27-9, 32-3, 35, 38, 146, 207, 219, 383 and 456

Lot 99.  E90-1 American Caramel Ty Cobb SGC 40 VG 3. Nice clean card of Cobb, centered slightly to right and some very minor soiling on the rear.
Winning Bid $1,099

Lot 100.  T205 Gold Bordered Ty Cobb. A beautiful appearing card that is definitely short and probably trimmed, but a very nice looking filler.
Winning Bid $600

Lot 101.  T213 Coupon Type 2 Ty Cobb. Type 2 Coupons are rarely found in condition this nice. The glossy surface subjects most cards to creasing. Beautifully centered, with the barest trace of 2 wrinkles in the lower left corner. The back is clean.
Winning Bid $1,513

Lot 102.  1915 M101-4 Sporting News Honus Wagner, Pittsburgh. Very popular Wagner card with minimal wear and a clean back. Excellent.
Winning Bid $2,100

Lot 103.  W530 Pinkerton “postcard” #159-Ty Cobb. The T5 Pinkerton Cabinet photos were made into postcard sizes cards and can be found with, either scorecard, postcard or blank backs. The key Cobb offered here is in excellent-mint condition and has a blank back with a pencil mark.
Winning Bid $977

Lot 104.  All 4 R319 Babe Ruth cards SGC graded. These are the Ruth cards from the Goudey set offered in lot 2. The 53-Ruth is graded SGC 20 FAIR 1.5. A nice appearance with a spot of paper loss on the back in the upper left corner dropped the grade on this. The 144-Ruth full length batting pose was graded SGC 30 GOOD 2. A clean appearing, well centered card with nothing other than some corner wear on front and back, this seems an unusually harsh grade. The 149-batting pose was graded SGC 40 VG 3 and has some wear on the red background. Otherwise the card has sharp corners and a perfect back. Finally, the very desired #181 portrait card was graded SGC 60 EX 5.
Winning Bid $6,202

Lot 105.  2 R319 Lou Gehrig cards. SGC graded. These are the two Gehrig cards from the Goudey set offered in lot 2. The #92 batting pose was graded SGC 30 GOOD 2, apparently because of two white specs on the right side by the color. Otherwise an excellent looking card. The #160 Gehrig grades SGC 40 VG 3 and has some soiling front and back and actually doesn’t appear as nice as the #91.
Winning Bid $1,375

Lot 106.  ca 1930’s Lindt & Spriingli Babe Ruth card. Somewhat of a mystery card. This rare card was consigned over a year ago and after contacting many collectors I can find out very little. Lindt was a Swiss chocolatier and the card as apparently issued in the ‘20’s or 30’s but no other information could be found. The card measures 2 15/16” x 1 15/16, has a clean back and is mint.
Minimum Bid $500

Lot 107.  Babe Ruth’s Last Home Run Program. The Babe hit his last Home Run in a professional game in Albany in 1938 on July 25, 1938. Larry McPhail had hired him to be the Brooklyn Dodgers 3rd Base coach in 1938. Traveling through Albany on the return from a western trip, the Dodgers had an exhibition game there. A “huge” crowd of 11,724 turned out because the Babe would play. He didn’t disappoint with a first inning Home Run amidst some suspicion the pitch was “grooved”. He walked in his final 2 appearances. The 6 page foldover program, which is in excellent condition, has a pre-printed lineup with Ruth batting cleanup, followed by Cookie Lavagetto and Leo Durocher. Ruth and Durocher were rumored to be the Dodger manager candidates for 1939. There is an accompanying 20 page booklet describing the events as well as an internet article and a Xerox of the following day’s newspaper story.
Winning Bid $433
