Lot 43.  Two better Ted Sullivan paperback books. Humorous Stories of the Ball Field published in 1903 and History of World's Tour Chicago White Sox and New York Giants.The former lists early baseball stories and includes b&w plates of old ballplayers and is in very good condition. The 1914 Tour book is in truly ex+ condition and includes several b&w plates with team pictures.

Lot 44.  Famous Sluggers Yearbooks. A complete run from 1932 to 1978 in beautiful condition. All 37 issues range from ex-mt to near mint. Includes 2 covers with Gehrig, and several with DiMaggio and Williams.

Lot 45.  A nearly complete collection of Newsweek Magazine with baseball covers. Not as popular as TIME magazine covers but considerably rarer. Newsweek started February 17, 1933 and the first baseball cover was April 15, 1933. Through all of 1933 Newsweek and into 1934, Newsweek covers featured 7 newsworthy photos on the cover. Over the years, 40 covers with baseball or partial baseball content exist. The offered collection includes all but the first 3 (xeroxes of these are included). Among the covers are Connie Mack, Judge Landis (2), Carl Hubbell (2), Ted Williams, Bob Feller, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Sandy Koufax, Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan, McGwire & Sosa, Ken Grifffey Jr. etc. Each issue is offered in a three hole plastic sheet which are in binders. The magazine are all in excellent or better condition and a detailed list of all Newsweek baseball covers is available on request.

Lot 46.  Rare One Hundred Years of Baseball by Frank J. Salvus (autographed first edition) 1938, 213 + 8 1/2 x 11 pages. Original half black cloth binding. Signed limited first edition of this chronological history of baseball from the creation of the game to 1938 with thousands of statistics. "A yearly collection of events, outstanding performances, records, and personal items" (Grobani 27-11). The work is divided into three sections: "From the Foundation of the Game to the Creation of the National League (1839-1876)," "From the Creation of the National League to the Creation of the American League (1876-1900)," and "The Twentieth Century (1900-1938)." Although the number of books in this limited edition is unknown, copies of this work are exceedingly scarce. A near-fine copy.

Lot 47.  Complete run of 71 Street and Smith from 1941 to 2005, missing only 1948 and 1998, and including 7 additional cover variety issues (1988 (2), 1989, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2001, 2003). Covers include Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, and many great stars. The rarer early issues grade as follows: 1941 (gd, tape on spine), 1942-3 (vg), 1944 (vg-ex), 1945 (ex), 1946 (vg-ex), 1947 (good, back cover loose), 1948-DiMaggio (vg-ex), 1949 (vg). The issues from 1950 to 1959 average excellent, the issues from 1960 on are almost all ex-mt to near mint. 70 issues in total and as nice a run as you're likely to find.

Lot 48.  Reprints of five classic baseball volumes. Includes Camden House reprints of the very rare and valuable Sol White Official Base Ball Guide and Jacob Morse's Sphere and Ash. The Camden House reprints have become a very popular collectible and each volume sells in 3 figures. The reprints were made in 1984 and 1988. Harry Ellard's "Baseball I Cincinnati was a limited edition reprint (150 copies) in 1987. The final are historic large format classics. The 1867 Ballplayers Chronicle and the 1868 The American Chronicle of Sports and Pastimes. Both measure 16 1/2" x 11. All books are in mint condition.
